Crockpot Recipes!

So... I need some yummy crockpot recipes.  And I don't mean the ones for 3 or 4 hours... they need to be at least 8 hours of cooking.  With softball and soccer started in the evenings, I need to have dinner ready when we're ready to eat.  Also, when we go on vacation this summer, I want to make dinner and go sight-see all day and then come "home" to eat dinner there.  Lunches out will be much cheaper than dinners out.

So... let me have it! biggrin.gif

P.S. No offense to val wink.gif but simpler meals that the whole family will like will be great. thumbsup.gif

Here are a couple of my wife's faves:

3 Chicken breasts
1/2 cube o butter
1 8oz Cream Cheese
1 packet of Dry Italian Salad dressing mix.

...or this one...

Cut large onion in half (peeled), place in bottom of crockpot.
Place Potroast on top of the Onion halves.
1 can diced green chilis
1 can chopped tomatoes
1 packet of Lipton Onion soup mix.

I was just going to post that cream cheese one. It's yummy! Pretty rich though, so I'd serve it over rice or noodles.

I also like doing a roast with a can of tomato paste, a can of beef broth, and an envelope of taco seasoning. When it's done you shred it and use it for tacos, taco salad, etc. Or just eat it alone. It's really yummy!

Yumm! I'll have to hide the cream cheese going in or certain snobs in the family will turn up their noses at it. No problem, though. How long ... like 8+ hours for these?

hey, rayb.  Ask Sister rayb if one can use Italian marinade (bottled) instead of the dry mix in this recipe.  I can try it, but I'd rather find out if someone else did and had a disaster or not.

If it's a marinade, I'm sure it's fine. Using any salad dressing could be problematic, because I don't know if they're made to cook... you might get some weird coagulations with the guar gum or whatever thickeners they use in the stuff. Also marinades have vinegar in them, but the dry mix doesn't, though who knows that might actually make it taste better. I'm huge on food experimentation. My wife likes predictable, so she'd say don't deviate, I say, Go for it. :)

coco, nono, crockpots are place of evil. I will send Gordon Ramsey after you!

On the extremely rare occassions my wife has cooked a roast in the crap pot, she put curry in it. There are these blocks of curry you can get at Asian store that are perfect, drop a couple in while cooking and get curried roast, potatoes, onions, carrots. That is good.

One thing, though, you still have to watch the moisture level in your crockpot, don't want to come home to a burning mess. They are not necessarily plug and play items.

Crockpots evil? Dude. Get real. Heavenly Mother uses a crockpot like all the time.

So far I've found them quite easy and stuff turns out really well. Sometimes the moisture has disappeared a little too much or too fast so I'll remember to add some extra water or broth or something... thumbsup.gif

So you like curry or you don't like curry? confuse.gif Sometimes I've heard it's better to add certain spices toward the *end* of the cooking time...

Holy cow, I love crackpots....er....crockpots.  biggrin

I put some chicken in yesterday with some rosemary and thyme.  Set it on low and when I got home, mmmmm, my home smelled yummy.  It was nice to come home to a warm meal instead of cold cereal.
