repeated over and over until I knew it would never change
I began to see no way out
repeated over and over until I wanted to run
I began to move away
repeated over and over until I learned the truth
I began to be furious
repeated over and over until I stopped listening.

Sorry. I must have left the chipper poetry in my other pants.

I agree, :( Tonight I went to a fireside where the speaker spoke how his dad always said all these praiseworthy comments (ie you are the best/the greatest son, etc). And the speaker said as he grew older, he realized this wasn't the case, t hat he was just like everyone else. He had humility.
Today at church I heard a mom of a new baby telling a couple of us that her young daughter is such "an awesome big sister!".
While it is nice these people get to hear these wonderful compliments, and I know it is important to be happy for others and the fact they get such good support and encouragement, it did make me think how it might be if I had grown up hearing more praise instead of just criticism (basically revolving around having a messy room and not being good in math). (not that it matters, but the compliments I got were rare and very sporadic)
I do like your poem though!
Also just a suggestion but maybe should this thread be renamed the Poetry thread to further differentiate from "crafts"? I know Poetry is an art form.
