First Presidency Letter

I heard no such thing, but now I'm consumed with curiosity to learn what was in the letter.

I had to read the 1st presidency letter regarding false rumors (bowing down to the youth of the church) in RS last week.

We have not had that letter read. Interesting.......

See, when I do a search on it, all I get is stuff like, "The usual letter that is read in each election year reiterating the Church's political neutrality..."

Maybe it just hit me differently this year. Plus my caucus leader was subbing doing the music in Primary so she was like -- in my face. I was wondering if she was going to try to get me to come to the meeting tonight.

I'll try to call around tonight about it...

False rumors?

Maybe that was just a specific ward problem. You know them hoosiers!

No letter in our ward and the stake president was there.

I just asked MrCoco about it and all he remembers is the GD sub referring to the letter to get out of debt or something... HUH?

Nope, sorry, Hoosiers weren't part of this problem. It's that rumor that's been going around for years about how when people such as Abraham, Moses, etc. ask the youth of today what prophet was "your" prophet and they say "Gordon B. Hinckley", then the asker will bow down to the youth. rolleyes When I read the letter in RS, people starting asking about the rumor since some of them haven't heard it.

The one about some cave woman saying that food storage is of the devil, now that was started by some Hoosiers!

It may have been read only to Utah congregations, because it reminded us that precinct caucuses are this week (tonight in fact) and urged members to participate in the political process. Y'all may get your own letter when the time is right for you.

And yeah, it reminded us that the church is neutral concerning political parties or candidates, but urged members to do their civic duty and take part in the process.

There has always been, to my knowledge, a letter read every year in sacrament meeting. Nothing big, just a reminder that the building is not to be used for political activities, be involved in the process and choose the best person for you. That is about it.

BTW, there was a letter from the First Pres. read to us in the temple session we went to Sat. night. Guess you'll have to go to the temple to hear that one.

Depending on how long they keep reading it, of course...

Yes, I was at the temple when they read that. And I had to catch myself a few times to obey the letter....

I ran into the counselor that read the letter a bit ago and he indicated it was nothing out of the ordinary for an election year... so, apparently it's hitting me personally in a different way.

And, on a different note, I confessed I was cooking with booze tonight. It's the clam chowder from Market Street Grill if anyone's been there. He said, and I quote, "Bring me the leftovers, would ya'?" So that pretty much settles the booze issue for me.

What in the world are you talking about? What triggered that from talking about a First Pres letter? How much booze did you put in there? BTW, you don't need booze in clam chowder. I have a fabulous recipe that doesn't use anything against the WOW.

A couple weeks ago, they read a First Presidency letter that mentionned getting out of debt. It also said something about doing wise investing w/counsel from trained/certified investment professionals and not falling victim to schemes.

The First Presidency wrote one letter for everyone the first week after their ordinations (It was on missionary worthiness).

They've written letters about debt, ponzi schemes and investing, members writing letters to Salt Lake ... when they should be getting the answers they need from their bishops and stake presidents, reaffirming missionary worthiness, etc..

The political letter was for Utah only from what I've heard.

Each year they do read us some type of political letter but they have never said anything about cancelling Tues activities for voting,etc. I realize that letter was specific to UT but does show the imortance of voting, etc

I agree that it was mostly, but not exactly the standard "the church is neutral about politics but you should all get involved" letter. I don't remember them ever sending a letter prior to the state caucus before, only prior to the November elections.

It was also interesting that they specifically stated that membership in any of the major parties is consistent with living the gospel. That was not news to me, but I don't think I've heard the first presidency put it quite that bluntly before.
