3yo had an allergic reaction to the Amoxicillin he got for his ear infection and woke up with what I thought at first was Chickenpox. It was just a rash. All over his body. Anyhoo, he's fine now.
But it got me p.o.'ed about the Chickenpox vaccine all over again. Why the heck do we vaccinate for something so routine and harmless as Chickenpox? Granted, when you're old and you get it it's more serious, but vaccinating 12 month olds??? Hello! Can't they at least put it on the 12 year old's schedule or something? If you haven't caught it by the time you're 12, we suggest the vaccine... something like that? Why we mess with anything that's remotely related to Smallpox is beyond me.

The one that I have a problem with is the hepatitis a vaccine. Unless the mom has it, it is extremely unlikely that the baby will get it from any source.

What I don't like about the Chicken Pox vaccine is that I don't think we have enough data to show that it's gonna keep effectiveness through 80-some years of life. And everyone is in agreement that it's way worse when adults get Chicken Pox, so I'm all

Yeah, I think the chicken pox vaccine is stupid too. Besides, it doesn't work! You can still get chicken pox, but it's supposedly a milder case. Well, without a vaccine, I had only 10 pox when I had chicken pox. Mr. Boo does not need a vaccine.
The explanatory info that I saw for why it's required is because of the inconvenience of taking off work to care for sick kids for two weeks. Yep, give 'em a shot because otherwise you can't keep the economy humming.
If a vaccine would have prevented or lessened my chicken pox, I would have taken it. I had a horrible case (at least it seemed to me) and I was miserable. I remember itching in places that one should never have to scratch. And mom covering me in...oh, what's the name of that stuff? It's thick like oatmeal, but medicinal? Darn, I can't remember it. But mom covered me in that and yelled at me if I scratched or rubbed it off.

I did not get chickenpox as a child, so I got the vaccine when I was pregnant and had little kids who might bring it home to me. I had my kids vaccinated too, while I was at it. My oldest got what we think was the "milder" form a few years ago - she had one pox. The other three so far have beens symptom free.
See, I'm okay for the shot if you somehow squeaked by childhood (pre-12 years-ish) without getting it. In fact, MrCoco got chickenpox in high school and it was terrible - insides of his mouth and who knows where else!
