So... you get the shots? Believe they work? Is that work personally or across the population? Is that the population of people or population of mutant viruses?
We've had some flu in our house the last week or so. Had daughter in the hospital overnight with A and B after her neck lymphnodes swelled up.
I'm one that doesn't get the shots and probably won't ever. The doc in the hospital said it likely would not have mattered.

I don't get the shots, but my babies do. (Not kids, but babies.)

I get the shots every year. My lungs are weak from too many bouts of pneumonia and my immune system isn't the greatest either, so I get them. Usually helps -- I very rarely get influenza, unless there's a strain going around that wasn't in the vaccine. And I never have a reaction from the shot, so, why not?
I have a phobia with needles. I get shots only when I need to. I hate the flu though, and if a particulary nasty one is going around I might think about getting a flu shot.
The kicker with "what's in this year's shot" is that you just don't know what's going to be floating around 2 years from now as far as strains go. The WHO determines the strains to include and not include in February for the season that is almost 2 years out. It's a crapshoot.
I haven't had the flu since I was about 11.

But my asthmatic mom and diabetic BIL both get them religiously, as they've found the flu shot has made a big difference in how many times they get sick in the winter. And considering the fact that BIL would get hospitalized when he got sick, it was pretty easy for him to notice the difference.

I don't get the shots. But DaKnife does, and when he forgets, I ask him too. I can avoid sick people. DaKnife is practically required to associate with sick people. He teaches military courses - and if the military pays for you to take a course, ships you across the country, and your next promotion depends on taking the course, you go to class even if you're at death's door. So his students are always passing a virus around class, and he picks them up.
How many kids or adults with a "mild" flud have killed their grandparents? Of the 36,000 who die every year from the flu, most are elderly, and many got it from their children or grandchildren. Please take precautions when visiting your loved ones. You don't want to be responsbile for killing them. (I wish this were hyperbole)
