U of U student carries concealed to class

This story talks about a student who carries concealed, as well as the concealed carry debate on college campuses in general.
In Colorado, each university can determine for themselves whether to allow concealed carry. So far, Only Colorado State University in Fort Collins does. But they have 4.5 years of people carrying and no incidents yet.

I would feel perfectly fine on campus with people having concealed carry permits. An armed society is a polite society.

I remember there was a big fuss when the State told the U of U it had to allow students with concealed weapon permits to bring guns on campus.

If you read the comments to the article I think it pretty sums it up.

I believe that if the only people who are allowed to have guns are the police, you are living in a Police state.

You are missing the point. Not only might I shoot you but you have the option of shooting me as well. What makes us free is that we can defend our rights, rights not given to us by any government but by virtue of us being men and women. The creeps who perpetuate these crimes choose schools, universities, and work places for a reason. They know the people there will be victims. When was the last time a guy tried to pull a massacre at a gun show, police station, or gun shop? Does it happen and can it happen? Sure, but the criminal will get no where near a body count to what they get in a supposedly "gun free zone".

I remember the day I first heard the phrase about an armed society being a polite society. I was in a gun shop during my lunch hour. There were about five other guys in there as well plus a couple employees. Everyone was using their best manners. Pleases, thank yous, pardon me, etc. I commented that everyone always seemed to be so polite in a gun shop at which point the off duty cop who happened to also be shopping responded, "An armed society is a polite society." When bad people see their fellow man as nothing more than a potential victim, then we do indeed not live in a free society.
