This story of an illiterate teacher helps illustrate a huge problem in US schools; teaching kids how to read. If someone can become a teacher without knowing how to read, how many other kids are slipping through the system? I really think that the method schools use to read is damaging to the learning process. I know many kids (and even adults) who struggle over new and unfamiliar words because schools don't teach phonics.

But yeah, I feel 100% completely responsible for my children's education, whether they are in public school, private school, homeschool or whatever. I think some parents "turn it over" so to speak to teachers. Too bad.

I knew a guy in college who's mom still wrote his papers for him. Fortunately he dropped out and enlisted in the army. No joke, he works for TSA today. His mom was a former Navy Commander. If someone writes their papers they can probably wing it through school. You don't have to be an "A" student to become a teacher.
