Poncho's post was on my mind as I was watching the news tonight. Sesame Street live is in town. They showed Elmo and Cookie Monster visiting a Pediatric ward in a local hospital. You could see the children all wide eyed as they interacted with them close up.
When my niece turned two this past Summer, her aunt on her mom's side gave her a coloring book with Sesame Street characters. My little niece said, "Oh my." Also, they had large Sesame Street Balloons at the party that held her gaze.
When my #2 son was in the Children's Hospital, the few moments of joy were provided by Major League baseball and the local shriners who came in costumes to see the children and love them.
He would have such a bright look in his eyes and I knew it meant a lot to him.
He loved the characters of Disney when we got to see them up close and personal as well. I think anyone who wears a costume and shows love to a child should be applauded. It's hard work to wear those hot outfits and still make a kid smile.
I think it'd be neat if the Sesame Street Characters went to Cares-A-Lot, the land of the Carebears, and got Cheer Bear to come with them to use their tummy powers to cheer up the homeless children on Sesame Street.

Ray, you have a very vivid imagionation. And as a writer and a father, that is a good thing!
Tickle me Elmo! I didn't have any little nieces yet. I think that my niece has gotten some type of stuffed Elmo. I know that she has Elmo sleepers as she had them at my house on Christmas. She is a stylin' girl when she has on those Elmo slippers lol.
I think it is bad how one toy gets so hyped as that makes it sad for the boys and girls that do not get it. If they wait until after, there will be plenty. But unfortunately with the Santa factor it just doesn't fly right to get it later. I guess parents can say that the elves didn't make enough. There was one family who bought their infant two before Christmas because they said she was a very special girl. I am sure was. I am sure that she did not know all the hype surrounding the doll and how special she was to have two of them either!
Ok, how of many of you ran out and bought a Tickle Me Elmo back when they were the latest craze a few years back?
My wife got one for our daughter a couple months before the craze hit. She saw it at Walmart and thought she would like it for Christmas. This was about 4-5 months or so before Christmas. Our daughter was about three at the time. I had just gotten out of college a year earlier and we were still getting going. I'm pretty sure it was on sale when my wife got it.
Anyway, the crazyness started to build as we got closer to Christmas. We watched the T.V. and saw how much people were paying for these things and thought about selling the one we got for our daughter. We even had family members telling us we should sell it. It was very tempting but in the end the hysteria and craziness turned us off the idea of selling it. It just felt like it would taint the holiday by joining the greedy throngs. We just didn't feel right about it so we gave it to her on Christmas as we originally planned. We still have that Tickle Me Elmo and every time one of the younger kids starts playing with it my wife and I laugh about that crazy Christmas.
