Back a few years ago, there was a character portrayed by the late Gilda Radner named "Emily Litella". She had a hearing problem, was dressed somewhat like a frumpy old woman and generally made a mountain out of a non-existant molehill.
After discovering her error, she would smile and say "Nevermind" and go on to the next faux pas as if nothing had ever occured.
Well meaning and well acting, in Emily's case, certainly never went hand in hand as she struggled through a variety of topics that kept her wondering until the misheard and most certainly misunderstood moments of her life were explained to her satisfaction.
Then, in true Emily Litella fashion, she could dismiss them and move on with her life, unimpeded by the truth that burdened so much of the world around her.
and I too enjoy the rantings and antics of Hyacinth Bucket and her total unwillingness to accept that she isn't now and won't ever be considered high society!!
y'all watch "Are You Being Served" as well?
Benny Hill is funny, but also can be quite crude at times. Monty Python's Flying Circus is also a fave around here.
Yes, I've watched a lot of "Are you Being Served." It has an interesting cast including a blue haired woman.
Was Double really quoting Emily? That one comedian must have borrowed her line(Sasha) when he was playing that wannabee street guy. I can't forget the characters name but I think it is different from his movie Borat.
