Welcome UC.

I hope you will find this to be a friendly place.

So sorry for your heartache and hope that you can find some peace with time.

Sounds like you are a very missionary oriented family.

Just jump on in an post away.

Not true... I only "proof read" her intro... and just now found the ONE mistake she missed... so that tells you how helpful "I" was... disbelief.gif

I have been suggesting she join us for a few months. UC is truly an inspiration to me. At her hubby's funeral she was comforting all of us. Her children stayed in their respective mission fields because that is just how their family is.

You got it Mahonri.... Not only have all their children so far served missions, but they have supported about a dozen more that "I" know about. Mirk will like her, cause she takes family prep VERY seriously... She is one of the friends that got me hooked on genealogy and she has one of the best voices that I have ever heard.

I know you will all love my dear friend. heart.gif

My heart breaks for you. My husband is also my best friend, my soul-mate... I'd totally lose it if something happened to him.

Thank you for sharing Construction. My mother-in-law experienced the same thing when my father-in-law died many years back. My father-in-law died suddenly of a heart attack, but he made sure my MIL was taken care of. And her children and children in law lovingly took care of her the last few years of her life.

When my own mother died as well suddenly many years ago it was a comfort when I was able to feel her presence in the temple. The knowledge that we are all sealed together for all eternity and that we will be together again one day is a strength that one doesn't always fully appreciate until after a loved one has passed on.

None of MrCoco's and my kids look like me, either. And we are secure financially as well. And he is better than I in every way... I'm actually not liking the parallels here...

Your strength is inspiring, to be sure. No wonder you and Polly are buds! heart.gif

UC was there for me when Daughter was in the preemie ICU. She took Son1 and kept him for 2 weeks most days even though she was just starting a pregnancy and was nauseated 24/7... I remember her telling me over and over again that everything would be okay...

I wish I could have been as good a friend to her, when Peter was so sick, but Father had other plans, that is more than I can imagine too, coco. I know she's not fooling anyone around here... she is an amazing lady.

Hi UCand welcome! I like your username too, I think it is a name that could apply to many of us. I like that  quote, pretty profound. Definitely Polly Anna seems to have some very strong friends!

I am sorry for what you've endured this past year. Out of curiousity, with the timing of  your husband's passing and your children leaving for and returning from missions, how long will the span be that all your kids have been together?

Best wishes as  you prepare to become a hospice nurse. I am sure your difficult experiences will be able to be of use to your future patients and their families.

Welcome UC.  Polly is one of the wisest people I know, so her recommendation of you means you get a big 'ol HOWDY from this Texas boy.

It's a bit cold outside, so come on in and have a cocoa float (dark cocoa with a scoop of peppermint ice cream--a Roper family Christmas tradition.)

I admit to being just a tad "jealous" of UC's food storage rotation system that her hubby had built for her years ago... wink.gif One of my goals for this year is to work on our rotation system...
so that I can monitor our storage better... Since we found each other online she has given me some good ideas on ways to do this...

Her hubby and sons (sils) spent many years hunting together... another way our families are very different... My hubby loves her deer jerky, so I got her recipe (which was her grandmother's recipe) about 20 years ago. But... I BUY my "cow" meat... giggle.gif Not quite the same, but hubby is happy (and so is my food storage).

She is the only woman I personally know that has learned how to make her own soap and candles, from her grandmother again... AND has practiced it... I am too lazy, but she is my friend... doesn't THAT count???

UC, I am strengthened when I see someone who is as strong as you are after losing someone to brain cancer(or any terminal illness). Thank you for your testimony. I think it is fine to count the days to see your children again as long as you help them stay focused in the field.

My family did house cleaning to get ready for my arrival. I was touched that they would treat me like a guest in my home before and following my mission.

UC, you must truely have a strong constitution if after seeing the bunch of nuts and eccentrics we of this community are you still decide to jump into the shallow end with both feet! wink.gif

Since you're a friend of Polly, than you are probably a decent sort yourself. I can promise we in the peanut gallery (a.k.a. Honorable Order of the Annoying Little / Big Brothers) won't be chanting "Fresh Meat!", but please remember we can't possibly be held accountable (it is in the ultra fine print) if Rayb or The Duke of Mirth eventually corrupt you with the festivities of the day as they did Polly... bwa-ha-ha devilish.gifrofl.gif

While there are lots of them of the female persuasion here who like to smack me upside the head, the only one who is authorized to do so is Poncho... so if'n you get the urge, you gots to get her permission to do so... wink.gif

HI UC. Glad to hear a bit of your story... though I probably won't remember it (hopefully you won't hold that against me), anymore than I can remember which members are male or female... But avatars kinda help that. :) Anyhow I look forward to hearing your incites and having many fine discussions of opinion, controversial, convivial and/or banal.

Welcome, UC. And I love the name, it reminds me of one of my favorite C.S. Lewis quotes:

Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace.

Is that from Mere Christianity? I've read it and used it, but I can't remember which book it's in.

Coco- did I read right, you served in India?? Cool! You may know my dad is a native of India. When I went on my mission, the bishop even suggested I get called to India. Anyway, I ended up in Idaho!

when i served in my last calling, my 2nd counselor served a mission to Indiana and would always tell folks that if they served there, they were valiant in the pre-existence.

I spent a summer in Winchester if you know where that's at. When I was there it was in the Cincinnati mission.

Oh you are smart! I saw the "na" at the bottom and wondered if she just meant, "nah", "I'm kidding". Anyway.

Mahonri: I don't know where Winchester in Indiana is, but we do have a Winchester here in VA!

Yes, and when I'd tell people I'd say, "India..... na." Trying to make it sound cooler. Truth is, I was totally bummed I wasn't going foreign.
