I went on one of those "check welfare" calls last week where the complainant was from the local mental health advocate and had concerns the "consumer" was going to hurt themselves.
Having gone through Crisis Intervention Training a while back and knowing that many people get depressed during the Holiday Season, I decided to put my skills to work and try to find out why the person was having those thoughts and see if they needed to speak with a counselor to resolve it, or if they would have to be taken in to the Psychiatric Urgent Care facility to see a doctor.
I asked them what was going on and they told me this:
I was depressed so I called the Crisis Help Line.
They were busy, so I was transferred to a call center in Pakistan.
I told them I was suicidal.
They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.

Mirkwood: Just to be sure, I am guessing you found this somewhere and that this didn't actually happen to you?
Personally, true or not, I found it more disturbing than funny. I don't see how there can be anything funny about suicide attempts and suicide bombers.
But it's the humor thread so I'll hush. Nothing personal.
Humor has personal aspects that many people may not share, but it is humor nonetheless. Funny doesn't need consensus, and it doesn't seek to please everyone.
I learned this after hearing some of the jokes the victims at rape crisis centers would tell each other.
(Well, ok, in truth, I really learned this during my inactive years hanging around with professional mockers of Christ. I'm hopefully fully washed clean of that stain - but in truth, I cannot deny that humor is found everywhere, and is truly in the eye of the beholder.)
LM [And if anyone pushes the subject, I might relate the story that a war veteran told me, that really did describe a humorous situation that started with an enemy soldier jumping into his foxhole and blowing himself up into little pieces.]

And I'd discuss the holy books with the learned men, seven hours every day. That would be the sweetest thing of all.
I told this one going down the mountain this morning with the entire zone of elders. Great joke!
