As a kid I was ALWAYS afraid that something like this would happen to me when I went to the Zoo. I remember there was a big alligator pit in Golden Gate Park and it kinda freaked us kids out to look over the railing for fear we might fall in... it didn't help that dad and siblings would try to push you unexpectedly from behind.

This is why I'm and advocate of the zoo hunting program. Not only will it decrease the surplus population of animals at the zoo but also will keep them in their place!

Those San Francisco police officers got to go on Safari last night and bag a tiger without all of the fuss and expense. Jealous mirth? Sounds like Tatiana is much better off having been put down.

MrCoco went with cocokid#3's field trip to the Hogle Zoo a couple months ago. Cocokid#4, who's 3, got to go, too. They went by the cougars and this one took a sight on cocokid#4 and totally came to life. (You know how they're usually just all laying around ) He said it was really freaky. He crouched down and was "stalking" him - people were stopping and taking notice of it. Cocokid#4 was oblivious, just strutting around playing and stuff. People started to yell at the cat and wave their hands at him, etc. The cat was 100% focused on kid#4, ignoring everyone else. People were still commenting to me at the school weeks later on how creepy the whole thing was. You just never know...

heard this morning on the radio, that there was some evidence that the tiger was really just a victim of the people it killed... cuz there was apparently a footprint on one of the ledges and a blood trail.
Frankly when I first heard it was a tiger in San Francisco, I was surprised that the people weren't shot first, to keep the tiger from killing them... and the tiger should've been given a medal by all the people who love animals more than humans.

Now it appears there was a bloody shoe story that was not true, but was circulating in the press yesterday... and that the attempts by some to exhonerate the tiger don't hold up to the forensic evidence... :)

Some friend of ours have an autistic son, so they thought we'd appreciate this story.
The man's sister-in-law also has a non-verbal autistic son and he is about 8 or 9 years old. They went to the zoo right after Christmas and their son got away from them. When they finally found him he was soaked from head to toe and they couldn't figure out why.
They took him home and put him in the tub and let him sit in there for awhile. I guess either they heard something or didn't hear something but they went upstairs and checked on him. There in the tub with their son was the boy's backpack and a baby penguin.
The boy had picked up a baby penguin and put in his backpack and they didn't know it.
How's that for zoo news? This poor thing didn't escape by choice though.
Can you imagine trying to call the zoo later and saying, "Um, we brought home one of your penguins by mistake." As a mother of an autistic child I can relate to such a story, I'd be horrified. But on the other hand I couldn't help but laugh.
New claim that that victims' entreaties for help were ignored ny a security guard.

I heard a glip on the news the other day that stated that the men who were attacked may have been taunting and trying to provoke the tiger. Can't remember how.
