I Am Legend: Now THAT'S Emergency Preparedness!

DH and I saw "I Am Legend" this weekend.

This isn't necessarily a recommendation for the movie - it's suspenseful and scary, with some violence meted out to CGI monsters. So don't go if it's not your thing.

But I have to admit, as I saw Will Smith in his apartment with myriad generators, canned goods and an impressive armory, I thought of mirkwood.

Dude, you'd be impressed. And maybe you need to reconsider the dog thing, it looks like they're handy to have around in a post-disaster scenario.

That, and a smokin' hot red Mustang. For hunting deer through Central Park, doncha know. wink

I saw a preview for that...or a poster...or something. Looked interesting.

The trailer looked interesting until it became clear reading about the movie this was a remake (of sorts) of the one Charlton Heston movie... and until it seemed like it was just another zombie type horror flick... Zombies are fun in the forums, but me no likey to get scared at the movies... wink.gif I'd rather see a chick flick! rofl.gif

It's not full-out zombie horror, but it IS creepy. And yeah, this is now the third remake of "I Am Legend", I heard the Charlton Heston version is dripping in melted cheese.

The scariness is when you don't really see them - in this case they're pseudo-vampires. Once they're up and running about they're more laughable than anything. Think Imhotep from "The Mummy".

I was the one who wanted to see the movie - I'm the Will Smith/Sci-Fi fan, and before we left the house I grinned at DH and said, "You know.... this is a snuggle movie." biggrin   He thought that was great.

Heh. I liked Independence Day and I Robot. That means I'll like this, right?

Does Brandon Frasier show up with a shot gun and save Will Smith from the Imhoteps? wink.gif

(now that is wording I've never heard before for describing "cheesey"... dripping in melted cheese! rofl.gif Hey, in the 60's when it was made, I'm sure it was state of the art for the budget they had!)

Ummm..... not necessarily. It's not his typical fare. I'm like Cat, me no likey horror films (OK, Sean of the Dead and Bruce Campbell and the Army of Darkness don't count), but this is scary for wimpy ol' me.

That being said, Will Smith was fantastic. Even though the movie only got 44% at Rotten Tomatoes - and I thought it was only so-so - the reviewers were almost unanimous that he did a great job. He was funny and tough and lonely. You just wanted to give him a big hug and make him soup.

ETA: Whoops! My response was to Euph, not Cat Herder. He's a faster poster than I am. And sorry Cat, Brandon Frasier does not show up.

Ray, Ray, Ray.

Was it not I that posted that fabulous AskANinja review for you?

I didn't like Pirates 3. I liked Will Smith in this, but the movie itself was underwhelming.

ETA: and we did get to see the "Dark Knight" trailer. Woohoo! There's a movie I'm looking forward to.

Is the Dark Knight a Batman movie? I saw a tralier on YouTube, but I'm not sure if it's what yer talkin' about.

The voice is the Geico lizard dude, isn't it?

Yup. Second installment of the "rebooting", after Batman Begins.

And believe it or not, that voice you heard is the Joker done by Heath Ledger. There was some internet grumbling when his casting was announced, but after seeing the trailer, I'm convinced. Pretty boy makes a convincing Joker.

Oh yeah.... I forgot that Mr. Ledger was in that. I haven't seen it, so it strayed below my radar.

When I think of Heath, "A Knight's Tale" comes to mind. And who doesn't like a movie where the knights joust to the tune of "Low Rider?"

So what's your favorite chick flick, Cat? :P

I plan on seeing it, I did like the Heston version "Omega Man". Finally, though, he has a good zombie/vamp killing weapon, an AR, a church-approved weapon!

Cat... brokeback batman... chronicles of riddick a chick flick... hahahaha... you crack me up... buwahahaha... You're too funny.

Last night I watched 'My Fair Lady' with my girls. They didn't understand 9/10ths of the dialog so I acted as translator. :) I love Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn... They did a superb job on that movie, and so many fine misogynistic songs in that musical! :)

Anyone seen the Chipmunks Movie yet? Child Thing 3 and Beserker Warrior Son are begging to see it, so likely we're gonna have to go see it over Christmas break...

Oh, speaking of Chronicles or Riddick... you should try putting together a lesson for Deacon's Quorum really late at night while that is on... the dreams you have when you go to bed will be extraordinary, and you will indeed be grateful that church was cancelled due to winter snow storm... wink.gif

I'll admit I've only half-seen My Fair Lady...once. But I thought, "This is lame. What- he teaches her how to be all independent and all and then what? She goes chasing the old guy at the end like she can't live without him?" bleh.gif

You should read the play the story was based upon, Coco: Pygmalion. It ends differently. :D

Chronicles of Riddick, good flick, though the odds of a woman holding her own alone in an uncontrolled prison of extremely violent men, is, well, sci-fi.

Going to shoot for watching "I Am Legend" this weekend.

Thank heavens my children have not expressed a desire to see the Chipmunk movie.

Obviously, he is playing the Will Smith role and staying hidden and safe invisible.gif and we all are the light fearing quasi zombie-vampires... furious

If I were Catholic that could be a rote prayer. biggrin.gif Amen, Val!

(one of the benefits of having no commercial teevee is you don't see commercials and kids don't have to follow trends... my kids could care less about an assortment of trends right now...)
