We had a similar discussion here once... but I figured Roper needed to have something to look forward to...
Slashdot is featuring an futurist article about the possibility that as robotics and such advance, that it is likely that many humans will fall in love (and have relations with) robots. What I found interesting about the article (which is admittedly of a risque' topic and is probably not of interest to many here...) was the observation that humans have a tendency to fall in love with and have affection for all sorts of things, living and not.
I've met people who loved their pets more than people. People love cars, money, and what not... And people who care more about their online personae more than their human one. And I could see people who loved virtual pets more than actual pets... so who wouldn't be taken in by a dashing robotic lover, or a voluptuous and obedient robotic wife?
I thought this might be an interesting area of discussion... how we tend to place our love upon the wrong things.

Hey, I wonder if the Church will have to take a stand on that. I mean, they've left augmented breasts alone...
Here's a list of bonuses from one of the comments on the article...
01) No PMS 02) No hormonal imbalances 03) No maxxed out credit cards 04) No cars driven til the motor burns up due to lack of oil 05) No ******** (edited by Coco) when your with your male friends at a sports/whatever event. 06) No lies 07) No drugs 08) No veneral disease 09) No coming home to an empty house, bank account, garage, investment accounts 10) perfect food, sex, massage, and SILENCE when ever you want it.
Gosh, how can you possibly beat that? You wouldn't have to try to get along or understand the other person's point of view (that's so tiring!), you wouldn't have to change who you are (and you know how much men resent women who try to change them), you wouldn't really have to live up to anyone's expectations... Sounds dern near perfect, don't it?

Yea but it isn't real. It's like when that guy was eating a steak in the matrix. It wasn't real and once you know that it somehow ruins the experience. If society is that shallow that a machine can satisfy all a person's needs, then I'm gonna head into the mountains and start living off the land. Of course many people are too selfish to see that it isn't always about them and their own needs.

I had a dream about this the other night, a vision you could say of the future. There were these robot people running around the galaxy killing folks so they were not allowed on earth and there were these special cops that would hunt them down when they came to earth. Maybe it was a vision or just some bad chili.

If MrCoco isn't righteous enough, could I come too?? (If you think you're man enough, that is.) Maybe if you started "working out" with the bots now, theoretically you could be ready...

Isn't it interesting though, that Free Agency gives this sort of futuristic scenario a sort of moral context? Yet I've always kinda considered the Mormon concept of free will as not being embodied in religion til very recently... yet it seems to answer a lot of these moral questions...

And Mormonism (and most modern Christian sects (after Mormonism set them all straight... ) ) enshrines free will as the motivating force for human existence.
Nothing in the world is more amazing than love reciprocated--given freely.

"Unreciprocated love, eventually leads to separation."....
"If ye love me, keep my commandments".
If we don't we will be separated from Him for eternity.
