Nice complimentary article.

I'm not that familiar with National Review but it is a big endorsement. I wonder though how much mileage he will get out of this.

Great article.  It prompted me to read his "Faith in America" speech again.  Great speech.

A friend shared with me an analysis that I hadn't considered before:

Many conservative Christian groups truly believe that Mormons are going to Hell.  Their issue with Romney isn't that he'll be taking direction from SLC (come on, how many people actually believe that?) Their issue is that Mormonism will become more popular and more people will become interested in and join the LDS church, therefore more people will leave their congregations and follow the path to Hell.  That's a perspective I hadn't consdered before.  I expect Romney is aware of that sentiment--he addressed it indirectly but effectively during his speech when he talked about tolerance and shared moral convictions.

As much as I support Ron Paul's political philosophy and integrity, I'm starting to realize that he is probably too polarizing to be electable.  And as much as I dislike considering "win-ability" in a candidate (there are many more important considerations, imo), I'm reconsidering where my support will go in the primary.  In this election, I now have to ask myself who has the best chance of defeating Clinton or Obama while still representing the values that are important to me.  Honestly, I don't think Ron Paul can pull it off.  I wish he could.  Romney can.  I'm starting to think that we should do everything possible to make sure Mitt's name is on the ballot for the general election.

eta:  I think it was Marie Osmond who said that Gladys Knight should run for President.  That way we could vote for an African American, a woman, and a Mormon all in one candidate. smile

Also, there's evidence to suggest that faced with a choice between Mitt and Hillary, or Mitt and Obama, the Bible belt will likely vote for the Mormon.

I think Romney did a great job with his faith talk. However I dont think he is any more electable than Ron Paul and I think Ron Paul is getting a very diverse support group (not just libertarian and fring as media portrays and some people would like to believe). Principly for me I will support Ron Paul who I believe is the Only genuine Constitutionally educated and supporting candidate. The Beast has a voice of a LION and the  candidate that the media refuses to support is the candidate I support.

Mitt won the debate today. No doubt about it.

I drove up next to a vehicle on the way home from the choir concert that had Ron Paul stickers plastered all over the back. I rolled down my window and so that I was certain he could hear me and with a strong voice I said. "Protect the Constitution, VOTE FOR MITT!"

He looked a little miffed.

My kids laughed.

Mahonri, you are a person that I have much respect for. One thing that we have in common is that we are mystified why the other one can support the candidate that they do.
I personally don't care if Mitt is electable. We need a return to the republic that once was, not business as usual. Mitt has nothing to offer this country. Even if it were an absolute certainty that Hillary would get elected if I voted for Ron Paul, I would still do it because I can not in good conscience support any of the other candidates.
I am very afraid, because it's starting to look likely that Mitt will be elected president.

Arbi, that used to be my position as well.  And I respect that it remains yours.

Shiz really helped me to consider things from another perspective:  During the constitutional convention, most of the representatives passionately supported their positions.  All had to give up some of what they supported for the greater good of America. "I would vote for Ron Paul even if it assured Hillary's election."  I don't see it that way any more.  For me, I'm willing to back off on my own political convictions somewhat for what I think is a better choice for America as a whole.

What we really need is for President Romney to work to get Ron Paul on the Supreme Court.  I think that's where Ron Paul's strict adherence to original intent could have the best impact.

Arbi, I too have a lot of respect for you. I know you have your reasons for support of Ron Paul.

I have to agree with Roper.

I could actually support Ron Paul on the Supreme Court. He would certainly protect the constitution from that position.

But here is my problem, Ron Paul scared me today when he said that our country is safe and that we don't need a military to keep us safe. That in my opinion is truly frightening. I would be worried about a commander in chief who doesn't believe that there is a Jihad against the United States and doesn't think we need to protect ourselves.

Oh my.

I wouldn't want to see your military gone. We reap the benefits of it here as well.
