Intervention for Hiccups

Hiccups has fallen prey to the dreadful "Retail Christmas Song Overload."
My proposed therapy is to introduce her to never-before-heard Christmas songs.

Just out of curiosity, who else knows this song?

I've never seen a white kangaroo! Cool! I've never heard that song before.

Last night I heard Blue Christmas by Porky Pig. That was awesome.

Thus far it seems like I'm the only person who knows this song.

That is surprising to me. It's been played at Christmastime on the radio my entire life. Now I'm curious to see if there are other songs that are played here in Canada you don't hear further south. Looks like it's time to post a Rankin family song.

I can't find my favorite Rankin song on Youtube: Jesus Christ the Apple Tree.
But I did find this:

It's called the Huron Christmas carol, or 'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime."  This particular version is sung in Wendat (Huron), then French, then English. Embedding it means you can't read the history of the song, so I'll leave that to personal initiative.

I'd apologize for putting up so many youtube links, but I can't. I like Christmas music too much.

Hiccups, have you heard this one before?

Okay, hiccups says she's never heard Weird Al's Christmas songs.

I'm posting his "The Night Santa Went Crazy". Be warned: if you don't find the idea of reindeers being made into sausage funny, don't watch it.

If it's too over-the-top for Bountiful, let me know and I'll switch it for "Christmas at Ground Zero", which is slightly less OTT. wink

Mirk, you're gonna love this. There are helipcopters and everything.

ETA: for some reason this one won't embed, so here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTGlUMvbhSw

Definitely not Canadian.

Makes me wish I grew up in New Orleans.

We sang "'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime" for our Christmas program a few years ago.

Anybody know 'There's a Hole in My Christmas Stocking" or how about "Christmas Mountain"?

I've never heard either one, 'bama.

I googled them, and found out that "There's a Hole in my Christmas Stocking" is one of those songs that people grew up with and can't find now. It sounds like it didn't make the transition from vinyl to CD, except for those sites offering custom Christmas CDs.

Is there a different title for "Christmas Mountain?" Because I can't find mention of it anywhere.

Those are all good suggestions, but it is now time for advanced approach... biggrin.gif

Cat, I salute your advanced approach. I'd seen most of them, but it was worth it just to see the Dalek in the manger - that was a spew-worthy moment.

A friend just introduced me to this group, so here is my latest humble offering:

Make sure you watch it all the way through - the second half is a riot.

I'm laughing hysterically and all my girls are staring in disbelief at the computer. "I feel bad for the chipmunks." says Ray's oldest daughter.

Oh my goodness, Hiccups, that was hilarious.

"sniff" I'm so proud of you. "sniff" (how's that for fake tears?) biggrin.gif

Does this meant that the intervention is working?

It does. I was willingly listening to the Christmas music station yesterday.

There are still a few no-no songs. Like anything by the Jackson 5... that "So this is Christmas" dreck... "Last Christmas I gave you my heart" big ol wahhh fest... "Santa, baby" um, greed is NOT sexy... there are more, but you get the idea.

This is my last (and favorite) offering for Hiccups.

Plus everyone else at Bountiful. "Breath of Heaven" by Amy Grant.

And whaddya know, I found a version on Youtube where someone combined it with the Church's Nativity video. Merry Christmas, all y'all!

Thanks to Dianoia for starting this thread! It's been a kick. I did eventually get in the Christmas musical spirit :) Ask Jen. She rode in my car the other day and I had the radio on *gasp* the Christmas station!

Merry Christmas!
