Mothering is a dirty, dirty job.

So I walk into my room where the 2 year old is napping intent on gathering laundry to wash, and I'm assaulted by a strong bad odor. My first thought is, "Oh, no! He threw up and then went back to sleep."

No, I was not that lucky. He pooped and then reached into his diaper and obtained a specimen for decorating his hand and my bedding.

Oh, well. I was doing laundry anyway, right?

Thank you so much for that TMI moment...

We get something like that probably once a week... and it ain't from a mere 2 year old. Try a 17 year old that is not completely bowel trained...

Hehehehe... I had a good friend of mine tell me that exact story about his two year old daughter on Sunday. If it's any consolation his daughter's a wonderful little girl and strangely enough really likes me--so no worries about your child's sanity. It's all good. rofl.gif

Wow hiccups... I never had a fingerpainter, thank goodness. Yay on you for looking on the bright side. If there is a bright side. b0x0rz.gif

We were in diapers at the honri household almost non-stop from mid 1988 thru the end of 2005.
Sometimes with more than one kid at a time... That's more than 24,000 diapers. Talk about a land fill.

God bless my wife. I probably only changed about 2,000 of those.

By my estimation then Mahonri you owe your wife around 10,0000 diaper changes. biggrin.gif

This is my first, um, arteest. And, bok, I just wanted to congratulate you on your excellent use of emoticons, lol.

We have struggled with this issue a few times. I think the bigger issue is that he's just not comfortable in diapers. He's always sneaking a hand inside to scratch an itch. I think that he did that when he was half-asleep yesterday and didn't even realize he'd gotten a dirty hand in the deal. When I woke him up to clean him and put him in the bathtub, he kept looking at his hand and whining, "Eeeww, gross. Eeeww, gross, gross."

I'm just hoping he'll become very interested in potty training pretty soon here.

Whew - at least that.  When they think it's funny - that's reeeeeelly bad news.   Good luck with the potty training, my friend.

Count yourself lucky. I had a friend whose child ATE the 'fingerpaint.'

Bah! We had a kid who ate the cat's 'fingerpaint' AND the cat's 'fingerpaint' packaging material AND some of the kid's brother's meds! And then same kid got to drink a large bottle of black water (activated charcoal) in the ER... all the same afternoon!

yeah, once our 15 y.o. kid figured out how to open the tape tabs on his diapers, he peed on the FRESHLY PAINTED WALLS!

(I am assuming it was a protest about the color we had painted his room.) frustrated.gif

we can't get him into bed now without some kind of pants over his diaper that he can't just sneak down. otherwise, life can be exciting in the morning . . .

where's the smell of napalm when you need it???    confused.gif

Well my almost 17 year old is supposed to be number #1 trained, right? So, why has he been coming home from school with wet pants in a bag the last three days in a row? frustrated.gif

His teacher told me yesterday he couldn't make it in time because the bathroom they use was locked! Who locks a bathroom in a school room with autistic kids?

Well, he did come up to me and say, "Dirty poop balls." How's that for a message?

That's sad-- where I used to work, for awhile I was on a locked unit w/people w/severe behavior and sensory issues (ie lots of self-abuse, pica, etc) Only read if you aren't eating, it makes me gag to even recall how awful this was. But they actually kept the water turned off in the bathroom as one person there would otherwise drink out of the tap water. As it was, this person would sometimes drink out of the toilet bowl and 'regurgitate' other things. So if someone went to the bathroom, we'd get the key to turn on the water so they could wash their hands, etc. Other than that, the water had to be off.

Back to the topic, some of the people did have to wear "smear suits", sort of a vinyl jumper w/fasteners on the back to prevent occurance of smearing behaviors.

I think all we can do is hope it is over w/kids soon. And hope we ourselves never do this type of behavior-- ie when we are old, etc
