Since I am all new to the wonderful world of Bountiful and all that it invites and offers, I just have to wonder if there are some private agendas going on in all of the PM stuff (which I assume to mean backdoor private messages that can be as snarky as possible with no level of oversight).
While some people are willing, it seems, to say whatever openly and let the chips fall where they may, there are obviously (to my new eyes anyway) those who do their work in the dark and behind the scenes.
Not a scholar or some sort of mystic of wisdom here, but I just want to throw in a couple of cents worth of thought here:
if the idea is to discuss openly in an adult forum for adult consideration all topics, then there shouldn't be private messaging available. the very idea of private conversation means 'exclusion'.
for some things, like marital relations between a husband and wife, exclusion is a good idea, but for a forum, I don't know that we advance our cause by hiding what we are trying to discuss, discover or discard.
everyone has feelings. and everyone is subject to having those feelings be hurt or injured.
everyone has hot button issues. and everyone has a different issue that lights their fire.
everyone wants to be important, feel worth the time and interest of others and to have the ability to say something that is on their mind and heart without feeling like their opinions are sanctioned or disregarded just because they are not popular.
Maybe I have missed the point here and if so, I apologize.
If I am not understanding the point and purpose of this forum, I will withdraw. I can certainly use the time and energy to burn another load of laundry...
If there is a problem with PMs, I'm not sure that turning it off would fix it. It would be simplicity in and of itself to create an email account that would serve the same purpose. For instance, you could surf on over to Yahoo and create bountifulalabamabelle@yahoo.com, and you'd still be anonymous, still be able to trade messages with other forum members, and accomplish pretty much everything people can do now with PMs. It would only make it ever so slightly inconvenient for people. Besides, not all association that began on this (or other) forums stays on this forum. There are several ladies on this forum who decided to meet in real life and now socialize regularly. It is great to have open, free communication on this forum. But I think that it is unrealistic to keep all association between forum members limited to open discussion on this forum. Thanks for your input, alabamebelle. Please feel free to express your opinion anytime.

I really like your new form of moderation announcement, Arbi, with the votey thing right there on top :)
I support your choice to close the thread, considering the recent board's history (which ironically Cat was really not involved with... because he was gone.) I think had this been a regular thread, it would be a little quick to close it, but considering the threat that we might end up rehashing the past couple weeks of discussion, let's just assume that that topic's off limits. People can go back and reread my discussions about the topics still... as well as the various responses... and we can just try to focus on a positive future filled with the hope of a day when we're all perfected and wonderful loving people all the time.
As children of a loving Heavenly Father, I think we should do all we can to encourage each other... cuz that devil dude is a big pain in the backside... he's like some kind of bottom biting bug... :)

I think it could be fun for you Cat to see which topics tick off which board members... Think of it as an adventure, like you're walking through a landmine.
I suggest you discuss topics that are as innocuous as you know... talk about things like Fig Newtons... or Macrame'... or cooking hamburgers... shepherds watching their flocks by night and innkeepers... or herpatology... and work up from there... It'll work out... you're just smarting now, but eventually people will see you're a decent guy who isn't deliberately trying to stomp on people's toes.

Obviously a higher authority has knowledge that I am trying to step on people's toes...
Since that is clearly the fact now, I guess it is good I'm not Chuck Norris, or they would be complaining about boot sole imprints in the face from stompin' them on the face.

It does seem that two posters really are following Cat around screaming bloody murder every time he posts anything they disagree with. I mean, the whole apology thing wasn't even controversial; they just didn't like his apology (or lack thereof).
They really need to get a life. Seriously. If you don't like what Cat says, then start an interesting discussion of your own (I dare you).
Here's the deal: He doesn't need to apologize. He wasn't being banned. He decided of his own volition to stay. So, frankly, whether his apology is sincere or not is a moot point. He decided to stay, so there it is. He's a participant on this board.
Address his thoughts on topics or leave him alone, and come up with something intelligent to say all by yourselves.
On another board, I had one poster who used to follow me around and disagree with EVERYTHING I said. I would post a new topic, and he would immediately attempt to stab any discussion of said topic in the eye. I wondered that he had so much time on his hands to monitor my every move. It became as if I were casting my brilliant pearls of wisdom before swine.

I'm going to have to ask that any non-moderation related discussion in this area move to another portion of the board.

This thread is the very best entertainment I've had all week.
I know it's only Monday but really. I actually snorted a couple of times and belly laughed once... and you all know that's saying a bunch!
Thanks for the giggles y'all.

Obviously there are some issues that haven't been resolved. Obviously they're important enough that some are not willing to just let them go. So I say we open a thread in the vault and let those who want to hash it out have their say, no matter how contentious it becomes, and let the chips fall. Undoubtedly someone will get offended to the point that they leave the board. Maybe that's a better solution than having to tiptoe around the unresolved issues and continually close threads because the issues keep coming back.
eta: Can we please call the thread "Catfight"? It fits in so many ways.

Surely there must be a way to resolve tensions without contention.

Certainly there is. But some of those involved have proven their unwillingness to resolve the issues without contention. So I say give them what they want--let them fight it out--and learn from their own experience.
Roper, I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request.
I knew you'd say that. In that case, you'll be dining with the crew. Naked.

I say let the cobras bite you, eventually you will develop an immunity to the venom. Either that or you'll end up taking a really long mindnumbing nap. :)

As the resident Cat, I just have to say that should Arbilad decide he doesn't want to dine with the crew naked, I must protest about entitling the proposed cage match "Catfight"...
Top Ten Reasons why to not call it "Catfight"?
10. The Buckeyes are headed to the National Championship game after all... 9. Four out of five veterinarians surveyed said they prefer more cowbell... 8. The referree's union has threatened to go on strike if they have to dress in old Cats (the broadway musical) costumes... 7. It assumes that, like the Highlander, the end result will be there can be only one... 6. Arbi needs to protect his Siberian Blues... 5. Bountiful has not received permission to produce a cover of Ted Nugent's Cat Scratch Fever... 4. It's too hard to get the sound of cat's fighting embedded in the forum... 3. "Hashbash" is ever so much more poetic sounding... 2. I would hate for anyone to think that my front row spectator tickets to said event were the result of somehow being the result of Tomaccolatte Inc. being a corporate sponser...
And the top reason why not to call it "Catfight"
1. It is just plain silly... I mean, if it gives Hoss a full fledged Diet Coke snortfest, can anyone take it seriously?
