Minor disaster

We got home from grocery shopping (of course) last night and our refrigerator and freezer had quit working. It took us until 11pm or later to pack up the frozen stuff, take it across town to my IL's to put in their deep freeze, and get everything else in coolers and outside. Then the danged thing magically started working again.

Great, right?

Except that then, DH found that some water had been leaking. It didn't seem like a lot, so he wiped it up and checked around, just in case. It had funnelled all along the kitchen wall, into our bedroom, bathroom, closet, and laundry room. We worked until 5am to get up all the water we could.

Tomorrow I'll call the homeowner's insurance guy to check for damage. What a mess.

One of life's little tests.

Question is, did you make it to Chuch?

I suppose in your case the Ox was in the mire.

I had to miss priesthood today to take an investigator family home who didn't want to stay all three hours. They started telling me what they had learned in Gospel Essentials and I decided that someone from the Bishopric had better be present to ride heard.

Happy Sabbath y'all.

That's the other thing, I'm recovering from a nasty case of strep throat. I hadn't planned on going, anyway. DH and the kids missed sacrament, and they're trying to make it to the other meetings.

I'm sorry. That sounds like a horrible mess on top of a pain in the butt.

Similar thing happened to my son's caregiver. Although I think it was her dishwasher.
She had to have her whole kitchen floor replaced. Luckily homeowners insurance covered it.
But then her car got broken into and her purse was stolen along with all the money she got from the insurance company. On top of that someone went on a "shopping spree" and put all kinds of gas on her credit cards within hours after her purse was stolen.

Fortunately she is not responsible for all the charges on her credit cards, but the money from the insurance company is history, over $2000 worth. Plus she still has not gotten her car back from the dealership for repairs since this happened (that was 12 days ago). They finally gave her a rental after a week.

We have had many such disastors lately. I first had trouble figuring what the odor was. Then I decided to check the dishwasher which had not been used recently because it want working any more. I discovered the line was coroded and had been leaking for a while into the crawl space. Then when I removed the dishwasher I discovered there was NO SHUT OFF valve for it and I had to shut the water off to the whole house. I could not get a plumber, I put a temp plug on it and then while we were out at the store the plug came off and water everywhere in the kitchen and laundry area. I had to shut off the water to the house again, clean up and get some assistance after I had CUT A hole in the floor as there is NO access to the crawl space where the water line feeds from. I cut the hole and got assistance to cut the line and put a cap on it. When the insurance guy came over he noticed moving water in the crawl space. So I called for plumbers again. All plumbers were unavailable then I discovered that a new plumber that had recently moved back to the area and obtained his liscence may be available. When I finely got the plumber over it took a few days of return trips on availability to discover what the problem was. There was sewage backing up under the house and my crawl space had turned into a mini septic tank. Again I had to cut holes into the floor as there was NO access to the crawl space. I had to relocate my family while the repairs are being made and clean up and sanitation is being completed. We had just started remodeling a room and spent all extra money on that project prior to discovery of the plumbing problem. Additionally our washing machine pump has a leak and its rather expensive to do laundry at the laundry matt for 7 people. Additionally we need to wash All laundry to kill any bacteria beforew we can move back. The new sewer line is in, but we havent sanitized and moved back into our house yet. Additionally I had been sick for several weeks and now my wife has gotten sick. So we are a little overhwelmed and tired of non stop issues. Supposedly this means Christ loves us eh?
Now I have no christmas money for our children and plumbing bill that is due. MUCH FUN!

I forgot to add that while we were away at Thanks Giving, someone entered the house and turned on the water connections to the washer and flooded the kitchen laundry again.

Insurance company has been called. And now, disaster cleanup company has been called. If the water got under the wood laminate, it will have to be taken up to dry. Half our house is in that laminate. I have these scenarios running through my head- one being that they have to tear up my kitchen floor. And then the laminate will have to be replaced. And then we learn that they don't make the pattern we have anymore, so half the flooring in my house will have to be replaced. . .

ACK!

hiddentreasures, what a series of messes. I'm sorry. :(

And Jesus still loves us. A series of painful trials several years ago made me do a lot of hard spiritual work and learning on that topic. What I came to is that I chose to come to a mortal world and live a mortal life, and that meant that bad things were going to happen sometimes; those bad things were not punishment or a reflection of a lack of love for me. But looking back now, I can see how we have been carried through those trials. One set of footsteps in the sand and all that.

Jesus loves us.
