Stand up!

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/DyeHard/story?id=3922069&page=1

Study shows standing up may be as important as exercise when it comes to losing weight.

Wow. I want a counter height computer desk now. biggrin

I recently saw a demonstration of the wired elementary classroom vision for the next ten years.  All of the workstations were on pedestals at different adjustable heights so that students would stand while working by computer.  I thought it was pretty cool.

I bet if these studies take off like I am thinking they might, those types of desk you mention might become the norm, Roper.

I've been standing since I read it. LOL. I'm going to have to sit at some point.

So, I had been looking at those desks online and have my eye on one, but it's not in the budget just yet. So, I've made a temporary set up on my regular desk by using platform to raise up my keyboard and monitor to a height suitable for standing. I like it! thumbsup.gif

When I stand all day, I typically don't have the energy to work-out afterward, yet I didn't really get much benefit.

Yeah, well, I am not planning on standing up ALL day, just sitting less of my day. Also, I workout in the mornings, so if I spend my day on my feet it doesn't really effect my workout.

What I found of particular interest in the article was idea that the fat-burning enzymes just shutdown when we sit. For me, it's something to be aware of. I'm trying to be very healthy these days and this might be a piece of that puzzle.

I used to have jobs where I was on my feet the whole shift and it did effect how much weight I would lose, imo. These days, I can get away with sitting a bunch of the day while I'm at the computer. (Our homeschool curriculum is online based and I dink around some biggrin.gif online as well.) I'm trying to error on the side of less sedentary.

And what are the prizes of all this hard work?

Hopefully, I get a pass on some of these goodies that effect one or both of my parents: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, bone-loss, weight-related joint trouble, type II Diabetes requiring insulin, daily fatigue, and sit-on-yer-butt-itis.

And I get to looker nicer and feel better. I get to model a strong and healthy mother to my boys.
