At Thanksgiving time I like to count the things that I am thankful for.
Things I am thankful for: Family Faith Job Working vehicles Friends Family Today's snow A free country Pumpkin pie

I am very thankful that Heavenly Father hasn't seen fit to strike me down with lightning yet. Seriously. Being alive is great.

I am thankful for the pensive sensitivity I see in my oldest's eyes. I am thankful for the joyous mischief I see on my middle child's face. I am thankful for the gleeful smile the threatens to take over my youngest's whole face a hundred times a day.
I am thankful for a spouse who is unfazed by the craziest parts of me.
I am thankful for Heavenly Father who knows better than I what I need.

I am thankful for the Atonement.

I'm thankful for the neighborhood hardware store that opened a couple of years ago. Yeah, I pay a bit more for stuff there, but I'd rather do that when I'm in the middle of a project than take 45 minutes out to drive to Home Depot or Lowe's. Installed three ceiling fans and a new toilet kit so far this week.
On his blog, Cat has posted a poetic and moving piece about gratitude. He should have posted it here, but I understand why he's away for a while.

I am thankful to have read what all of you are thankful for. Hiccups, I especially liked what you said about your husband and children. Arbi, that is a fine list! Roper, I know what you mean about service at a local hardware store. We are really close to some of the large hardwares and a small local hardware store though although the closest one closed. I have a lot to be grateful for as well. 1. My family who are also my friends. 2. holding down a job 3. that I enjoy learning 4. friends far and near 5. heat on in the house--My parents held off a while this year. I hate the cold! 6. mommy bought sugarfree apple pie just for me! and much more!
I'm really really thankful for the internet right now.
A few weeks ago, the gas company replaced the meter out behind our house. Of course they turned the gas off for while and then back on. It never occurred to me that it meant the pilot light for our furnace went out. Our gas water heater still worked, after all.
For the first time this fall, it got cold enough overnight for the furnace to kick on, which it didn't. We awoke to 35 degrees outside and about 50 in the house. Well, I've never had to light the pilot on the furnace before. Our furnace is old and has no instructions anywhere. After an hour of trying different things, I couldn't get it to light. Two minutes of Googling yielded step-by-step instructions with photos and diagrams. In another five minutes, we had warm air circulating through the house, and with all the baking today, it's downright cozy.
Yay for the internet!

I spent about 20 minutes praying this morning on the top of a mountain, thanking the Lord for all of my blessings.
I am so very grateful that I can see and hear and touch and taste and smell and feel, that I can walk and move and climb and drive.
I am grateful for the legacy left to me by righteous ancestors.
I am grateful for this wonderful free country and a President who has made two outstanding choices for the Supreme court.
I am most grateful for a loving wife that I adore and love with every fiber and fat globule of my being.
I am so thankful for seven beautiful children.
I love my beemer but I'd be just as happy in an old Ford pickup.
I'm grateful for our home and the fire place that's keeping us warm... our heater is on the fritz.
I'm thankful for my calling as a teacher: Adult Gospel Doctrine, elders quorum and seminary--I love those kids.
I am grateful for Joseph Smith.
I am grateful for a loving Heavenly Father and Elder Brother, Jesus Christ and His infinite atonement.
Thanks
