Super-Secret Vault (Again)

I would just like to renew my request that we make the super-secret vault a place where we post exclusively those things that we don't want non-board participants to see.

It's tedious to me to have to log in to see stuff that could be posted anywhere.  Frankly, there hasn't been a decent "members only" discussion there for, well, forever.

Why does "Ideas for ward activities" need to be a "secret?"

I vote Hoss start a totally embarrassingly personal thread in super secret! w00t.gif

How do you propose that the moderation staff ascertain the thread originator's reason for placing a thread in the private area of the forum?

What do you propose as the criteria for "members only" discussion?

Maybe something like, "Would you mind if we moved this thread to X subject area?" If they say yes, they will probably give you a reason.

Why not just stay logged in?  Even when I close the browser, the next time I hit the "bountiful" bookmark, I'm already logged in and ready to go.  No tedium required.

Most of it can be done by means of common sense.

I wasn't necessarily calling for moderator action, so much as having board participants use their head and choose a proper place for the thread.

Because I occasionally give it a perusal at work, and I prefer to not stay logged in at work, if I am away from my computer.

For example, at this very moment, the following threads do not really need to be confidential at all:

The ward activity thread
The "I broke my toe" thread
The "Cowbell" thread
The halloween costumes thread

I think that is your opinion. Perhaps the original posters had reasons you are not privy to?

Personally, I would like to see more of the forum areas non-lurker enabled... wink.gif

But, Hoss does have a point... and so does hiccups...

Oh, and I personally wouldn't recommend anyone ever stay logged in 7x24 to anything on the internet... big security risk...weirdface

I like discussing some things there that I know only the members can see and have no problem with any of the topics currently on there. What may seem like no big deal to one person may be something that another person wants to keep a little more confidential. Maybe it's something you consider silly but that they feel more comfortable discussing by closing it off from the lurkers.

Hey Hoss, something I do is check the last time someone posted in the secret vault.  Then I judge if I want to check it at that time or wait for a bit before I log in to read it.

Big security risk for what? I'm not on the internet all the time, nor am I logged into my desktop all the time. I just don't log off bountiful when I close the browser. Then, shut off the computer for the night. Then the enxt day when I get back online, the browser pops up and wallah ! ! !

Maybe I am wrong or misunderstood, or maybe I gathered the wrong conclusion, but I gathered from one thread at another board that someone took info from a post at the Secret Vault thread and made fun of it elsewhere. Reading this made me lose interest in posting the Secret Vault. I do like the theoretical idea of the Secret Vault, there is something in my area of the world that I'd really like to inquire about here...and I specifically wanted the input of one of the Bountiful members. However, since it seems that there is a leak here that posted at least one Secret Vault post somewhere else, then never mind. :(

I like Hoss's proposal. Though I could see if you were dissing on some member of your ward, why you'd put it in the super secret vault. :)

I would like to be the content moderator of the Super Secret Vault. I'd be more than glad to put the stamp of disapproval on anyone who didn't meet my personal criteria of "interesting". MUWAHAHAHA...

"I do not deny that my heart has greatly desired to ask what you offer. For many long years I had pondered what I might do, should the Great Ring (of Moderation) come into my hands, and behold! it was brought within my grasp. The evil that was devised long ago works on in many ways, whether Sauron himself stands or falls. Would not that have been a noble deed to set to the credit of his Ring, if I had taken it by force or fear from my guest?
"And now at last it comes. You will give me the Ring freely! In place of the Dark Lord you will set up a Queen. And I shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night! Fair as the Sea and the Sun and the Snow upon the Mountain! Dreadful as the Storm and the Lightning! Stronger than the foundations of the earth. All shall love me and despair!"
The Fellowship of the Ring: "The Mirror of Galadriel," p. 381

I would appreciate info on where that other board is in a PM. I'd like to evaluate how well the secret vault is working, or isn't as the case may be.

As moderator of The Secret Sauce, I would edit all posts with better topic headers for Hoss...

The following threads would appear like this:

BORING: The ward activity thread
WHINEY: The "I broke my toe" thread
POINTLESS: The "Cowbell" thread
TEDIOUS: The halloween costumes thread

And any thread I started would be labeled,

BRILLIANT:

C'mon Arbi!! Give me da POWAH!!! Muwahahahahahahaha!!

Per Valhalla's request, I have moved his thread on when it is appropriate to end a marriage to the Vault.
