Pleasantries

Talk to me of pleasant things.
Lie to me of dreams.
Let me find the silver linings
That seem to grow thinner and thinner
In the darkening storm.
Lift and Encourage...
There is peace, is there not?
Is there not a promise of rest?
Why does the path seem so dark sometimes?
Why must the way prepared be so mysterious?
Once upon a time, I had
friends like rain in a rainstorm.
Too many to hold onto,
So I let them slip through my fingers.
Or was youth just a cruel illusion?
Regrets radiate across my mind,
Regrets of so many moments lost.
Endless tomorrows, then I'd do good,
How fragile was my freedom,
Traded for ever-safe morsels of fear.
So remote... so distant... echoes.
Famished are my intentions.
An empty feast of wholesome sermons,
Sweet memories and salty what-could-have-beens
Are spread across the table of my life.
So open my mouth with laughter
That had no deeper meaning than
The simple celebration of being.
Let me drink in one last vapid joke
Wherein I am not the tragic punchline.
Talk to me of pleasant things.
Lie to me of dreams.
Let me find the silver linings
That seem to grow thinner and thinner
In the darkening storm.

Thank you Ray, that is great. I see a lot of myself in this, in that I have lots of intentions to do good, etc. Yet I procrastinate much of the time and due to being unorganized, some good ideas often fall to the wayside.
Anyway thank you for sharing.

So much imagery and feeling! I must say that it is good to hope. Hope is one of my favorite words.
