Bush stands up for the right thing

Sometimes it is still possible to be inspired by politics:

United States awards Dalai Lama Congressional Medal

"Americans cannot look to the plight of the religiously oppressed and close our eyes or turn away, Bush said at the U.S. Capitol building, where he personally handed the Dalai Lama the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal.

Americans of all stripes, especially LDS, should be strong supporters of the persecuted and religiously oppressed throughout the world.

That's cool. I'm glad he didn't fold to pressure by China and the corporatists...

To just what extent does anybody think Americans and LDS should support the persecuted and religiously oppressed?  I get the distinct impression many think Americans should be compelled to go to war to relieve the persecuted and religiously oppressed.  I won't drag the US Constitution into this issue because I don't think most people, including most LDSs, realize it forbids such actions.  However, as private individuals we have the right to go abroad to fight in any war other than participating in a war against the USA.  The Lafayette Escadrille, the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, the American Eagle Squadron, the Flying Tigers (AVG) are examples of Americans individually and  privately getting into foreign wars .  Also there were those of us, including myself, many of us with previous military service, who risked getting killed in support of the Israeli Arab battles for reason of our own.  (And the ones I was associated with did not do it for the money.)

I get royally angry at suggestions that good Americans and good LDS should go to war to support somebody else's pet cause.  And not just when I consider that cause a hoax.  I suggest that anyone who states that Americans ought to support a foreign conflict be prepared to get into it themselves and/or be happy to send their son(s) into such a conflict.  We've got one son now in a war that I believe the US got into on the basis of lies and deception (downright treachery in my opinion), as was the case in previous wars, with and without the required declaration of war by Congress.

I seems President Bush & Co., under direction of his puppet masters, are on a drive to incite much of the world against the US at the same time he psychs many or most Americans up for war against Iran.  There are those of us conspiracy believers who strongly suspect President Bush & Co., under direction of his puppet masters, is deliberately promoting a Pearl Harbour type attack against the US by provoking and tempting Russia to attack the US after making the US more vulnerable, as he is doing quite successfully.  The purpose of all this, many of us believe, is to weaken the US to a point where Americans will willingly accept a socialist dictatorship government by the UN, and incorporation as a unit into a world government.  There is evidence to my satisfaction, including statements by past prophets, that confirms this.  I see it happening.  And I'm not going to debate it.

Polly, if you want to recuse yourself as moderator, I'll play backup moderator. I don't plan on contributing anything to this thread. That way you could comment to your heart's delight.
