A quick analysis of this data gives us the most revealing look yet at who Ron Pauls donors actually are. First off, I took the state-by-state breakdown of donors and plugged into an Excel sheet, using it to produce donor-per-capita numbers for each state. Using this data, I created this map:
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen! - Samuel Adams
The article sounded like such information was a one-of-a-kind deal and that it was really out of the normal, and even bold, to be this open with funding sources. Reading that, I would think that anyone else would only reveal such information upon request or prying, if even then.
Is it considered bold to be this open with funding sources because most politicians have controversial backers?

One thing that Ron Paul is well known for being good at is grass-roots fundraising. That is, fundraising small amounts from a large number of people. I know that the amount I sent him wasn't that large. And it works. There was one week where he raised $1 million, just in that week.
