I tried to start a big post on what came down here in the wee hours of Monday morning in Michigan a couple days ago, but apparently, the post didn't take.
I know this probably wouldn't affect any of you directly (besides Poncho, crazymom, and me), but it is good for you to be aware of what the Democrats are doing...
And the funny thing is that the newspapers are not even saying much more about this since Monday's editions... a major tax increase to all wage earners in the state plus expansion of the sales tax despite the voters having passed a balance budget ammendment earlier. I don't even think it made national news that officially, the Dems shut down our state government for at least several hours and in some instances, effectively all this past weekend as a ploy to create an emergency and flex their political "might." This is the way our Crazy Jennie (aka Comrade Granholm) and her party have decided is the way to balance the budget instead of getting rid of pork and corruption and waste by those great cities of Detroit, Pontiac, and Flint and their politicians and school districts (state funds are a large portion of local school districts revenue sources here in Michigan).
And we have close to 7.5% unemployment in the state, and our governor thinks this is going to help convince employers to come to Michigan and to expand and invest here... like she has a great track record in attracting or even retaining business here. And you know what is even funnier... the big things that are news stories today are the $176 million dollar tax break the state just finalized with Marathon Oil to expand their refinary in Detroit and how impressed the local gamblers are with the new permanent MGM Grand Casino in Detroit...

Yeah, that would be great if they could get the boot, but the problem is our state's lawmakers have made things very tough, and expensive, to actually get them thrown out of office.
That is the biggest gripe I have against state and local politicians and officials... the only way to get them out of office is to vote someone else in the next election cycle unless they are convicted of some sort of crime and are forced to resign.
