Thompson will win the Republican nomination for two reasons. First, he's a very impressive candidate. Second, there's no realistic alternative. He will win the general election for the same two reasons. Let's start by considering the Thompson's Republican competition.

I did. I just don't usually feel like commenting on political matters. Also, I could say that the article has some very reasonable points, but I do not consider myself the best judge of fact vs. crap (err, spin) when it comes to politics. (Not saying that article was spin, just that I wouldn't know.) I need to get educated. Politics for dummies book, maybe?

The article makes some valid points. For me it is definitely between Romney and Thompson. Thompson is more likely to win because he seems more down to earth than Romney. Americans seem to prefer the flawed. I could be comfortable voting for Thompson (if he makes it through the primaries as a winner) if he had a good running mate.
Thanks for sharing the opinion piece. Many of the items discussed in it are the reasons I'm leaning towards Fred Thompson. It also stated the obvious that a lot of Thompson's appeal comes from the lackluster slate of candidates that he is running against.
