This lady showed up after church yesterday. She was doing a report for her comparative religion class and wanted to interview someone and get some questions answered. So the Elder's Quorum President Volunteers to be the victim and she goes on to tell him that her assignment is to do a report on a non Christ based religion. He tells her that this is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the we are indeed a Christ based religion. Oh, no, you can't be because I read online that you were not. It took some real effort by the Elder's Quorum president that our church didn't fit the requirements of her paper. By his description of the conversation, I don't think she was totally convinced because of what she read online but she eventually gave up and left. If her information gathering and investigative skills are any indication of her academic abilities, I would be surprised if she got anything better than a C- on this report!
I don't know. Depending on the teacher's biases, she may get an A+. It sounds like she's good at parroting what she reads, so if she parrots back to the professor what he wants to hear, then he'd be overjoyed at her paper. It does get tiresome when people try and tell us what our religion is and is not. I worship Christ. So has every Mormon I met. And I assure you that I speak from a greater position of authority than some anti posting to the net. I have never, not once, heard a fellow LDS make a statement like "I'm so glad that Joseph Smith cured my ill daughter." But I have heard similar statements made about Jesus Christ.

I just find it interesting that some anonymous source online has more credibility than the actual mormon sitting across the table you are asking questions to.
I think the other reason she wanted the Mormons to work is that there are no Islamic, Budhist, or Jewish groups in town so she would have to travel to another city to do the report. Basically, she was just lazy.
Since she appeared to be pretty lazy about this, why even bother to "interview" someone? Why doesn't she just gather all her information from the internet? I get annoyed with the attitude toward the internet sometimes, particularly with the schools because they now "expect" kids to go on the internet to do research for school projects. My daughter had an assignment that the only way it could be accomplished was via the internet. My argument against that is not all people have access to it. Even then I don't believe everything that is put out on the internet is accurate.
There are a lot of folks who believe the average mormon's religious worship is defined by the first 4 words of the hymn "praise to the man", and they go to great lengths to educate everyone they can reach on the subject.
And it doesn't seem to help when we point out that one of the reasons we think Joseph is great, is that he "communed with Jehovah", or that "Jesus annointed" him.
