Study Links Autism to High Testosterone Exposure in Mother's Womb

As this has personal interest to Poncho and me, it is yet another intrigueing possibility, but makes ya wonder... "Okay, so how does that equate to a cure for our autistic son or anyone else's autistic child or in prevention of the condition affecting any other child in the womb?"

Study Links Autism to High Testosterone Exposure in Mother's Womb

And the article this article references:

Testosterone finding backs the extreme male brain autism theory

I want to know how they can make such a study with only non-autistic children. Wouldn't they need to compare both groups? It makes no sense to me.

Most parents of autistic children have good senses of humor Ray... having developed enormous senses of humor and the ability to let most stuff others would find insensitive or rude or horrific roll off their back, cuz sometimes it is the only thing besides the Grace of God that gets them through the actual hardships the family endures.

Of course there are some who are not like that where one has to take special care.

We are in the former category, not the latter. biggrin.gif

I have heard so many theories over the years as to the causes of autism that I have no idea which if any are true.

Cat, are you trying to imply that I was too manly when I was pregnant with child thing #1?
If so, then hey, that'll be a first!

I think it's Cat's testosterone... he's like exuding it from every pore. Poncho's probably one of the few women who's built up an immunity after exposure for so long... (it's like iocaine poison)

Either that or I'm starting to absorb it. My question is how would one get too much testosterone exposure?

Yeah, and then there's others who's first question would be - "Did you vaccinate your kids?"

Yes, we vaccinated our kids. That's a tired old argument. Our son showed signs of delay long before he ever got vaccinated.
OH! And why is it everything is always blamed on the mother? Back in like the fifties and sixties they used to claim kids were autistic because their mothers didn't "love" them enough or give them enough affection. Sheesh. And, they institutionalized them alot of the time. Yeah, like they're really going to get affection there!

I agree with Ray, Cat's testosterone was too strong for me. biggrin.gif

Actually *cough* I could see this as a distinct possibility. Why? Because there is an epidemic increase in insulin resistance in this country, which is associated with Syndrome X, which is associated with PCOS and HAIRANs syndrome, which include hyperandrogenism as a symptom. Hyperandrogenism=increased male hormones, particularly testosterone. So, more women have increased levels of testosterone, which can be highly correlated with the massively increasing levels of autism in this country. (Though, of course, correlation does not equal causation).

Or maybe they just put another baby in the same womb... to share the abundance of Testosterone...
