Explaining Mormonism to a hungry Press

http://pewforum.org/events/?EventID=148

I read this article. It's really really long, and very interesting. It's interesting from a historical perspective, but also from a political perspective. Essentially Bushman attempts to explain mormonism to a bunch of reporters interested in the topic.

I found some of his explanations somewhat lacking in places, but in other ways they were very profound. His discussion on Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were fascinating, not from a spiritual sense, but a historical overview.

I liked his discussion of radicalism, though I think he missed part of the point of Polygamy... it was interesting to read too... I also thought he really summed up exactly why the whole Mitt Romney taking orders from the Prophet thing is not gonna happen...  really really well... And explained why the church doesn't excommunicate politicians who advocate public policies contrary to the church's stated positions... he's a very gifted communicator, imo...

It's a long article, though...

Thanks for the tip, Ray. That was fascinating.

I read this article a couple months back. I like the Q&A format.

It is a blessing to have someone like Brother Bushman who is a faithful Latter-day Saint and is fluent and capable in the world of academia and can deal with the objectivists on their own turf without compromising doctrine.

I agree freggy. I really like his unabashed approach to whatever criticisms have been thrown out there...
