Funny how they are suddenly all concerned about the quality of the environment...
I love the part where the article states
The report suggested ways of minimising environmental damage, including "green corridors" of wilderness without roads.
These would allow wildlife to remain connected but not provide an easy route for people trying to cross.
Another proposal was "live" fences of cactuses, or permeable barriers to allow water, insects and pollen to cross the border.
Yeah... sure... "green corridors" will not provide a route for people to cross... Yeah... sure... cactus fences will really keep people from crossing too... That is like saying put up a hedge, and no one will bother the shrubbery or landscaping cuz they will know it is actually a fence... and where, pray tell are they going to get enough cactus to form a fence? I dunno... dig it up and destroy environment and wildlife habitat someplace else?
I'm surprised the article didn't state a problem with sensing devices causing EMF interference with insect life or the mating habits of some sort of lizard / snack...
Puleeze!

I can think of no other country in the western hemisphere with a worse environmental track record than Mexico. They treat the environment like their own personal dumpster. I read on Fox news that they were looking to make a formal complaint to some UN environazi if we go ahead with the fence. If Mexico weren's so corupt, this would be much more funny.
How about worrying about the environmental impacts of thousands of people walking through environmentally sensitive areas daily.

Yeah I heard about this on Glenn Beck. I'm sure this is the ONLY reason they're concerned... hee hee... makes me want to see the fence up even faster... :)
Up here in Washington we take care of our salmon, even with things like dams... there are ways to accomodate wildlife that don't accomodate that other kind of migratory life they want to restrict...
