Family History Chuckles

My wife, in searching an 1811 Danish church record, found a sixth great grandfather in 2 successive entries. The first records the burial of his wife Marin on 6 March. The next entry records his marriage to Anne on 15 March.

At least the marriage was after the death instead of the other way around. weirdface.gif

Life was very short back then, no reason to waste too much time mourning!

I think they had a different perspective on marriage back then.  I think "romantic attraction" was probably pretty far down on the list of priorities.  Of course, with the cultures that still do arranged marriages, couples learn how to build love rather than fall into it.

One of my friends recently lost his wife and two of his four children in a car accident. I've thought about what I would do in that circumstance.  I would definitely marry again, but my priorities would be first and foremost someone who would love and help care for my children.  Next would be a testimony of obedience to covenants. Next would be good health, emotionally and physically. Next would be a willingness to live within the means of a modest income. Next would be organizational skills--an area where I'm weak. Romantic attraction would be pretty far down on my list of priorities, because I believe two people commited to the Lord and to each other can build that together over time.

If MrCoco died, I would not marry again.

They may have been sisters... particularly if one was younger and you looked at the age of the one who died and if there were kids to take care of. That was not too unusual in generations past for a man to marry his single sister-in-law if his children's mother died. Which is why it was not unheard of back in the days when polygamy was practiced for a man to take his wife's sister as a plural wife.

nor would I... of course, I don't know MrCoco and have no relationship to him in the first place, so considering I'm already married and if he died it would change nothing in my situation it is moot... wink.gif

Can't you grieve and get married at the same time? :)

No. It's like when your puppy gets hit by a car. You get the new one and you can't even remember the old puppy's name. Gawsh, did I even HAVE an old puppy? I can't remember now...

I don't know of any family history chuckles. But, when we moved to Utah many moons ago, our church membership records were transferred out there and the membership clerk informed us that according to the records, Cat was never released from his mission! Even though we had been married for nearly a year. We decided that has been the cause to all of our problems. We have been living in sin all these years!

Speaking of living in sin... when MrCoco and I got married in the temple (Jordan River) apparently not all the signatures were taken care of. They tried to contact us but we were "unavailable" you know. We were in a cabin in Yellowstone. Anyway, they wanted us to come STRAIGHT to the temple when we could and sign the papers, cuz although we were lawfully wed, we were not legally wed. Yikes.
