Patriarchal Blessing

When's the last time you read your Patriarchal blessing?

Do you think of it as a major guiding light or too nebulous to be of much practical value?

Do you consider your Patriarchal blessing when you make decisions?

Have you had parts of it come true or do parts seem impossible?

Do you feel like you understand it for the most part?

And if anyone says "patri-article" blessing, they get a smack! biggrin.gif

1. This morning
2. It is general guideline to me
3. See #2, as there are things in it that remind me of what is important
4. Come true, yes, in every respect thus far (but mind you, it has and remains dependant upon my faithfulness)
5. Yes, and more so in hindsight as life progresses

Mine seems kind of nebulous to me. I probably read it about once a year. Most of the stuff in mine seems to take place so far down the road that it really won't matter. Other stuff I probably won't realize until after it's been fulfilled. I guess it was pretty generic. I know some folks make a big deal out of it but for me I guess if I didn't have it I wouldn't feel like I would be handicapped or anything. At least based on what mine says. Maybe other people have a little more bang in theirs.

Good question. I think I read mine sometime in the past year, but it's been awhile. I do know pretty well what's in it.

It kind of seemed more specific when I was younger and getting started in life. Now that I'm on the 'endure to the end' track, it keeps me on track with some specific things that I need to focus on.

I don't have many major decisions right now, but I do keep the basics in the back of my mind most of the time anyway. Parts of it have 'come true,' at one point illuminatingly so. Pretty much all of it seems likely. Unless I apostatize or something. You know...and start going around saying things like "Harry is a horcrux."

Pretty understandable over all, yes.

I haven't read it in a year or two. I read it so much the first few years after I got it that I have it practically memorized. I love it though. It has been a VERY good guide for me.

It has been a couple of months for me, but like Dyany I pretty much have it memorized.

Mine is fairly specific and quite specific. I have seen parts come true, some are occurring, some will be.

1. A few weeks ago.
2. Major guiding light.
3. When I make really important decisions, phrases from my blessing usually come to mind.
4. Several things have come to pass multiple times and in very specific ways.
5. I think I understand it.  someimtes, after something significant has happened, I'll get one of those "Aha" moments and think, "So that's what that means."  Then it happens again in a different way and I think, "Well that means more than I thought it did."

As I've mentioned before, I rarely receive specific guidance.  Maybe for me, my blessing is the balance to that, because a lot of things are very specific.

Maybe the Lord figured I didn't need as much info. I'm just a bit dissapointed in the thing. I know that's probably wrong but I guess I was thinking there would be something spectacular like you hear when people talk about their PA blessing in gospel doctrine or sacrament talks. Mine just seemed so average. I guess I was probably expecting too much. I got it when I was a senior in highschool. My mom had been pushing me for years to get it. I think I may have mainly got it for her benefit rather than my own. When it came in the mail she gave me the cold shoulder because I wouldn't let her read it. I finally gave in just to get her off my back. I'm sure that all contributed to my blaise view of the whole thing. I probably should not have gotten it at the time. I was pretty rebellious at the time and getting into mischief. I think my mom figured there was something wrong with me because I didn't line up at the Bishop's office at 14 to get one like all the other youth in the ward. I should have probably waited and now regret getting it when I did. If I had gotten it a few years later it might have been a better experience. Now when I look at it I just get mixed feelings remembering how it all went down which is probably why I don't look at it very often. I've probably only looked at it a half dozen times since I got it 15 years or so ago. I know it is wrong but sometimes I wish I could give it back and do a re-do. Sorry if I come off sounding negative. I just sometimes wish it meant as much to me like it does for so many others.

I read it every so often. It varies in length of time between readings. The last reading was within the last month. Some has clearly been fulfilled, some has clearly not been fulfilled.

I have a few key phrases I cling to, though most of it seems pretty general. And I think of these things quite often, though I always seem to lose the hard copies... :)

Mine is memorized. I need to go over it more than I do, I think. MrCoco hardly ever reads his.

I heard a talk on KBYU playing in the background as I was doing chores and stuff and I thought he said the most important thing about our PBlessings was getting our lineage...?! I can't think of anything more irrelevant to me. At least to my salvation and my personal righteousness. Apparently I'm missing something...

It's important in the sense that either being a literal descendent or being adopted into the house of Israel is necessary for us to recieve all the blessings promised to Abraham and his descendents. So once you know which one you are then you know which specific promises and blessings apply to your tribe.

But if you're adopted, it's as good as being literal, isn't it?

Yep. There were different blessings or promises made to the different tribes. All are heirs to the blessings of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob(Israel), but each tribe has it's own set of promises, blessings, and prophesies.

And one would find the tribe-specific counsel where?

Someone in an F&T meeting said that Ephraim was rebellious as a tribe, and that is why Americans are so rebellious. Where did that come from?

Probably from Crazy Doctrine Land... I go there quite regularly... to support my stance on Illegal Immigration. :)

Not from the D&C, Section 64:

34 Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind; and the willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land of Zion in these last days.
35 And the rebellious shall be cut off out of the land of Zion, and shall be sent away, and shall not inherit the land.
36 For, verily I say that the rebellious are not of the blood of Ephraim, wherefore they shall be plucked out.

When Israel (in the old testament) blesses his posterity there are specific things spoken to each of those sons.  Some of those things apply specifically to those sons while others can be applied to the lineage.  Also, the descriptions fo the tribes themselves given in the old testament can offer some insight.  The BOM offers many very specific things regarding Ephraim and Mannassa.
