Miss New Jersey controversy

Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo Reveals Alleged Blackmail Photos; Fate to Be Decided Thursday

FoxNews was showing one of the alleged photos on it's front page where one couldn't avoid it.

I found the following quite interesting, though...

Polumbo's mother, Jennifer Wagner, told FOX News Thursday morning that the pictures, which were taken before she got the crown, were just "normal college pictures."

"But, you know, especially people from an older generation, people on the board of Miss America you know, Miss America is supposed to be a saint and not have a normal life, I guess. So they might look at them differently. But I feel very confident that they're going to make the right decision."

Maybe I am sounding like a prude here, and if so, I'm proud to be labeled so.  It doesn't matter if it is considered "normal" behavior or not.  That sort of stuff as reported as being shown in the alleged pictures is not "normal" fun.  It flirts with the term lewd and should not be celebrated or just listed as innocent fun of "kids having fun at a party" and "college theater kids just doing the silly things they do."

I never have been a fan of beauty pageants, but this is absolutely getting ridiculous about how little regard seems to be given to the public facade of these young women representing virtue.  Either walk the talk of virtue, or get rid of the facade altogether and turn it into the junior Victoria's Secret catwalk... rolleyes

She and that Republican Politician Vitters should get together and discuss the sanctity of marriage.

Who's your daddy!!!!

This sort of behavior is sickening but we've basically set girls up in society by telling them they have to act like tramps to be popular. Just look at those Girls Gone Wild Videos and how popular they are. Then these girls get all bent out of shape when the evidence surfaces. Serves them right for being raunchy and lewd. It's hard to feel sorry for someone who willingly does this stuff when their photos end up online. I hope she loses her crown. If even one little girl out there learns a lesson it will be worth it.

I must've missed this part. At any rate, this bending out of shape will not last long... Pretty soon they won't care one whit what the prudes are thinking or saying. Once the WWII generation is totally gone, things are going to change big time. Just an opinion of mine.

yeah... to the point that watching the pageants on TV won't be a "good, wholesome family activity" anymore? Afterall, it all is really just all about money (advertising and prize money for those that place / win), and since that thing which we prudes don't want to talk about sells just about everything (including Dairy Queen nowadays it seems), they'll be able to make lots more money off it by going the Junior Miss Victoria's Secret path...

p.s. Coco, I'm not the one to whom you direct that VS celestial kingdom crapola towards... I don't believe I've ever weighed in here as anything but neutral about that push Coco's button issue. wink.gif

It's already changed.  We are not the country we used to be.

Very true, and that's a sad thing.

You're not kidding that it's everywhere. I went to an iPod site to try to find an answer to my iPod problem. They had ads for iPod products. The ads featured women with very little clothing on modeling the products. I quickly left the site.

It is sad.  I look at the few remaining members of that generation and wonder what kind of world they think we live in now.
