Goodbye dollar

Hopefully what this guy states is happening will never come to fruition.

A common currency shared with Canada might work. Their dollar is getting really close in value to ours. Mexico needs some serious economic and government reforms before something like this would work. Since we long ago left the gold standard there really isn't anything backing it up other than our own economic and government stability something Mexico is greatly lacking.

I can't remember where I read this.  It was a fictional story about the future where there are three currencies in the world:  The dollar for all of the Americas, the Euro for Europe, and the Yen for Asia and the rest of the world.  I would have never considered such a possibility, until the French, who are passionately nationalistic about their language and other cultural things, got on board with the Euro.  So I guess anything is possible.

Interesting what the clip says about Texas.  I can totally see Texas seceding and converting back to Confederate money if the Amero becomes a reality.  In fact, there will probably be a lot of instant millionaires in Texas because they've got hoardes of old Confederate money waiting for just such a day biggrin

I can't see / view what you linked, Arbi...

I have a problem with a shared currency that crosses the boundaries of sovereign nations, not just a problem with saying "bye bye dollar." I have no problem with exchanges of currency. They have worked for millenia. As has been stated, a currency represents the economic power and stability of the government that backs it. The EU is not an elected governing body by the peoples of Europe. It is an oligarchy. And from what I have understood, now folks in the European nations that make up the EU are starting to feel they are beholden to the EU as much if not more so than their own nation.

The rest of the world would love nothing better than to see the U.S.'s economic, political, military, and diplomatic power and influence further weakened than to see us become subject to some "Amero" oligarchy. And for this reason, it is vital to prevent folks like Billary from gaining more influence and power, for they feel and act as if we should be beholden to other nations.

The problems of a shared currency crossing the boundaries of sovereign nations will not be a problem for long.  The develping North American Union will take care of that.  "Clearly we cannot meet the challenges of the new millennium with an instrument designed for the very different circumstances of the middle of the twentieth century. Make no mistake about it, the anticipated reforms will erode national sovereignty, infringe on personal liberties, and lead the world into a system of global governance." (Kofi Annan, 1997)

You know, as odd as it sounds, on this I agree with you lundbaek.

Global governance can not be based on corrupt principles or corrupt individuals.

Since we are not on a fast road to a North American Union by any means, I don't think a shared currency is any closer or likely.

Guess it depends on what you mean by "fast." Or how concerned we are about the coming grandkids...

Don't worry, Coco. The grandkids will be paying taxes through the nose to support the Baby Boomers' social security debt. evileye.gif

We are "paying" for the current war through debts on the grandchildren, too.  Drug benefits?  Farm subsidies?  Ethanol?  Steel?  Why Pres. Bush, why?

A single currency in the United States was not always the case and was viewed by many as reverting to tyranical and despotic government that had been shed through war. The federally issued monies were subject to upheavals and inflation for many decades. But, so were the local state and bank notes.

Having traveled much of the Euro based Europe then crossing into Sweden, Denmark, and Norway (each with a different Krone), I appreciate the unity of currency. Mexico would have to stabilize its government and rid itself of rampant corruption before this would work well. (While I think there is corruption in our government, too, the economy is able to function reasonably well thus far).

Canada's too much like France. I'm heading to old MEXICO. I figure it's only fair to become and illegal in their country.
