Ron Paul

Since I started a thread on Mitt Romney to reduce clutter, I thought I'd do the same for other candidates for president that the members here talk about frequently. Here is the entry on Ron Paul. Feel free to post news stories or other bits of info on Ron Paul here.

One of the local campaign workers for Ron Paul mentioned that on the CNN website, there were dozens of pro-Ron Paul comments on the newstory that weren't there the next day. I've heard similar things from other people.
I know that this information is totally unverifiable. So I'm posting it as just that; an interesting rumor.

I know one thing that he doesn't have going for him. He suffers from one of the same things Ross Perot did... he looks funny. Don't think a month of makeovers would give him the eye appeal that some of the other candidates have, regardless of how compelling his platform may be.

I hope that whomever the strongest candidate ends up being on the Republican side, he ends up taking the best parts of all the party's primary candidates platforms into his general election platform. But, I don't think McCain would, and it may be questionable how much Guiliani would. Romney might.

What do you think about some of the so-called "second tier" candidates, or would that cause too much of a "sell-out" accusation?

I saw a really cool thing the other day. I was patronizing my favorite garden store, and when they gave me change the bills were stamped with "Ron Paul 2008". I think that's a great idea.

Isn't that a crime? Purposely defacing of legal tender to advertise / campaign?

I thought I heard recently that the promotors of the new Fantastic Four movie got in serious hot water for using a bunch of quarters to advertise the movie...

sorry for the derail...

When I did a web search, this is all I found. It doesn't seem to cover stamping money.

Defacement of currency is a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code. Under this provision, currency defacement is generally defined as follows: Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

Presidential candidate Ron Paul today won the Coalition for New Hampshire Taxpayers (CNHT) straw poll at their annual picnic in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. Dr. Paul received 182 of 294 votes cast, or 65 percent. In second place was Rudy Giuliani with 24 votes, or 8 percent.
Let's get a little context on that headline there Arbi!  giggle.gif

I got this today from the Ron Paul campaign headquarters:

Many political pundits from the mainstream media dismissed Ron Paul's
campaign for president from the day it started.  However, when support
for Dr. Paul came alive via the Internet, those so-called experts had
to acknowledge (reluctantly for most of them) that there is support for
Ron Paul.  But then, they tried to dismiss that support as little more
than an Internet craze that could not translate into "real support on
the ground."

Well, we know what they either don't know or don't want to admit:
Americans from every state and every walk of life are supporting Ron
Paul's message of freedom, peace and prosperity.

As straw polls from around the nation are showing, more Americans by
the day are deciding they want Ron Paul to be our next president.

Ron Paul was on Michael Medveds show not too long ago, a think it was the third hour of the show two days ago. I don't remember anything very particulary exciting about it though.

On being asked about Iraq, Ron Paul stated his position that if we just left the Middle East that things would be better, Michael disagreed. Same with me.

Michael also asked him if he thought there was anything to the 9/11 truth movement, Paul said he thought the idea that it was an inside job was silly.

On the North American Union, Ron Paul replied saying that he hasn't heard about anything in congress about it.

On if he would run as a 3rd party canditate if he loses the nomination, Ron Paul said no, that it is too hard to get anywhere with a third party, and talked about his experence as a Libertarian party nominee.

He was also asked questions about the income tax, and if there are any current politicans that he would include in his administration.

This post is not a political comment... It is an observation... Today we went to Apache Junction to a 1st Cousin reunion for the cousins on my mom's side of the family... On the 3 hour trip I saw 37 Ron Paul bumper/window stickers... (after the first 5 I started counting...) Anyway... I just thought it was interesting that all those vehicles that were showing support were late model SUVs in the $60K and up price range... (i.e. Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz G-class, and Hummer H2). That was something that just surprised me...

What did you think of Ron Paul's statement that he looks at marriage as a religious institution from the debate last night?

I could say something about it, but it would be assumptious and ill-informed as I didn't watch the debate...

I think he said it in such a way that it was meant to stand on its own. (No context required - but arbi can tell better than I can.)

"Marriage is a religious institution. The Federal government has NO business in telling a church who they have to let get married."

Then Rudy said it was religious but also civil and said he's performed some 200+ marriages and considered them civil. And he hoped they were all a man and woman... something like that.
