Is the tradition disappearing?

Our ward will soon be having it's Father's and Son's outing.

Do your wards have the yearly event?

In our stake the wards do it one year, the stake the next. Always near the anniversary of the restoration of the priesthood in the month of May.

Yes and no... it seems to be an afterthought, because we have a Stake merit badge clinic / overnight campout several weeks before the AP father son commemoration campout thingee... in fact the merit badge clinic is this evening.

Haven't heard anything about the Father Son thing yet. Only went on it one time with my older son. Not a good experience (since he is autistic). I may try it with my younger son this year if they have it. He may be old enough now to enjoy sleeping in a tent with Dad.

Aaronic Priesthood Commemoration Camp Out is this weekend for our stake. My son is a baby... I'm not going... --Ray

We don't do a stake Fathers and Sons campout in our stake. In our ward we have done it a couple of times (in the four years that we have been a ward). People here think it's a good idea, but it's hard to get someone to head it up (the AP leaders are busy running the AP program), and by the time people start thinking about it, it's hard to get a group campsite reserved. Last year when the ward leadership didn't plan one, there were a couple of men who were going to put one on, but they never did. I haven't heard anything about it this year (we certainly won't be doing it in May to commemorate the AP restoration). If the ward doesn't do anything I'm thinking I'll just take my son camping.

They changed it to ward aaronic Priesthood Commoration Campout because so many guys weren't going because they didn't have sons. Also it is usually poorly planned. They wait until the week before to try and secure a decent location. I went last year because my son was finally old enough. So far there has been no announcement in church so I'm assuming it will be the same old thing. I'm thinking of taking the whole family camping somewhere else instead.

They have it here and invite all men to go to the campout.

We've also had "Family" or "Ward" Campouts as a ward. It usually ends up being Dad and the kids, with all four of my girls all complaining and hating nature. I have one who had to go potty and the only thing available was one of those port-o-potties... I finally had to pick her up, pull her pants down and sit her physically on the pot all the while she's screaming bloody-murder.

We haven't gone camping since... rolleyes

We have it every year. I don't think it's about the Priesthood anniversary, but maybe it is. One year it's the ward, next year it's the stake, etc... It's always the weekend of Mother's Day. smile.gif
