Cat Herder

If I remember right, you grew up in Livermore?  Now, I read that you were in Germany at the same time we were.  We were in Mainz and Bad Krueznach.  Were you serving any where around there?  It'd be really wierd if you had been one of the missionaries we fed occassionally.

So much for my memory.    I remembered the place but not the person.

Sorry, palmon. Mixed memories, I guess. biggrin.gif

I have never set foot in the vast state of California. I'm a Buckeye through and through, born in the hinterland of The Big Apple, grew up in Central Ohio, served mission in northern Germany, and have now lived with my brood of Cat Herders in "that state up north" (as we Buckeyes refer to this bi-peninsular state come football season) for the better part of the last decade...

Livermore is almost a completely different city now. My grandma lived in Walnut Creek up until a few years ago so I remember when it was still farmland driving through to get to here house. Now it looks so different that I don't even recognize it anymore.

Someday I'd like to go back, just to see the creek, and boot hill and the old church on Mocho street... I lived across the street from that church for ten years... growing up a kid...

I grew up in what was originally a semirural area in San Bernadino County, California. We had to drive a ways at first to go shopping. We lived next to many orange orchards. Now that area is all paved over, and what was once semirural is now expensive yuppy housing. It's considered a pretty upscale neighborhood.
I remember a friend of mine complaining when they started to put all those stop signs in.
At a later point in life we lived in Silicon Valley. Even though it was pretty built up, they still had some orchards and such. I went on my mission and almost all of it disappeared. There was a place in Sunnyvale that was called, I think, Olson's Cherries. They grew their own and sold it in the shop on their property. Then they sold out and built condos there, I think.

Oh....the orange groves in San Bernadino County...the smell of them just make me think of Grandma's house...

There will come a day when they regret paving over those orchards... Sigh.

Yes, this is the story of my life... a thread that was started to honor me turns into a discussion of paved over fruit orchards in a state I have never been. lmao.gif

Well, to bring this back to you Cat, my daughter just walked in, saw your avatar and exclaimed, "Oh my gosh, it's Glenn Beck! He's strong and fat!" I guess we haven't seen the Incredibles enough times recently. That and a lot of Glenn Beck and my poor 6 year old is confused!

Don't know if being mistaken for Glenn Beck is a compliment or an insult! rofl.gif

Rayb, Did you go to Granada HS? As I remember Boot Hill, it was next to that school.  I remember the rural feeling.  Last time I saw it (the town) was almost 20 years ago.  At that time, it had already changed so much that I almost didn't recognize it.  I recieved a post card saying it was reunion time.  As with all reunions, it'll have to take place without me.

I was never old enough to go to HS at Granada but I would've. We lived across the street from the LDS church, its grounds are right up against the Highschool's. The creek we played in every summer pretty much 24/6 (not on Sunday) ran around the back of Boot Hill.

Glad to hear that Rayb.  I was getting concerned that you had such good memories of boot hill, cuz back in my days, that was where all the druggies hung out.
