Finally got around to joining

Hello, all.

I've lurked a little since the beginning of this board. Bokbadok has kept me informed of the more interesting goings on over here (yes, she is my better half).

A lot of you will know me from Nauvoo (wait--can I say that name on this board?). I'm afraid I'm not much of a talker (or a poster), so I expect it will be many moons before I become a profuse pontificator. I participate in online forums because I enjoy hearing what other people think about things more than to express my opinions. And especially right now while I'm in the heat of finishing up my PhD I probably won't be able to post much.

Anyway, I just wanted to say "Hi." I think this is a good forum and I'm glad to see it growing.

Welcome he who has the heart of our beloved Bok! biggrin.gif

Hmmm... I think we have our first husband wife team now, aside from Arbilad and his love!

Working on the PhD, eh? Is Bok getting her PhT (Putting hubby Through)? You best be good to her and thank her for all she has done during the years you've been in school! biggrin.gif

PhD at BYU?

Am I assuming wrong since Bok says she is from Happy Valley?

Yep, in Electrical Engineering (I want to be clear that it isn't in the Humanities so no one will have unduly high expectations of my spelling and grammer smile.gif ).

Why do you ask about BYU? Is that good or bad? worry.gif

Mahonri holds some sort of false allegiance to that school up north, and not the one that wears maize and blue and has the annoying song that claims they are the champions of the west (lo, verily, even the school that is the mother of all false schools up north) wink.gif

True fans bleed Scarlet and Grey or who Rise and Shout at the appropriate time. biggrin.gif

Welcome Dilbert. We're glad to have you.
What are you planning to do with your PhD?

I have no idea what this means...

First reference to "school up north" was U of U (Utes)...

Second reference to "school up north" was U of M (Wolverines)...

Bleeding Scarlet and Grey is something Buckeye fans do... those who Rise and Shout, well you should understand that one wink.gif

The Buckeye - Wolverine rivalry is the Grandaddy of college rivalries, even though regional to the Wasatch front (and to some extent U.S. LDS circles, BYU - U of U is pretty intense).

Can I guess what I think Dilbert will be doing with his PhD in EE? 1. Research Guru for a hi-tech firm eventually leading to many patents and the designation "Fellow"; or 2. professor at a prestigious university teaching future generations of electrical engineering students and writing papers on research and inventions he gets to do courtesy of said university.

Thanks, everyone for the welcome.

I was not aware of Mahonri's collegiate allegiances. Now that I am, I would just like to say:

Well here it is......one play for it all.
Utah staying in their prevent step back and, there's room out there.
Collie, Mahuika, Harline, Allen the receivers in the set. Beck's in the gun with Curtis Brown.

This should be the last snap of the football game.

Snap to John. John back peddles. Plenty of time, plenty of time, plenty of time.
He's moving to his left; shuffling, shuffling, shuffling. All kinds of time - now the heat comes. He's got to run to the right, John Beck is on the run, he throws behind him it is...

CAUGHT FOR THE TOUCHDOWN! CAUGHT FOR THE TOUCHDOWN! CAUGHT FOR THE TOUCHDOWN!

JOHNNY HARLINE GOT IT FOR THE SCORE! HARLINE BY HIMSELF IN THE ENDZONE! THE COUGARS WIN IT! ON THE FINAL PLAY OF THE GAME!

When I went back to school to pursue my PhD I had intentions of going into accademia. But after doing the research/publish thing (with a little teaching) for a few years I realized that I enjoy doing applied research more than that (where you figure out how to do something, and then build it rather than just write a paper about it).

So I am going to work for a company that builds wireless communications systems in a couple of months. Although I will start with a title like "Senior Member of Technical Staff", I intend to advance to "Technical Guru" before too long. My plan is to grow a beard down past my waist and wear robes and sandals (I would grow a ponytail too, but, alas, that will have to wait until the resurrection when I get my hair back). I'm pretty excited about the opportunity, but of course I have to finish my dissertation before that happens. Speaking of which, I ought to get back to that right now...

Great plans, Dilbie... I think you'd make a fine Moses... HOpefully you can design a wireless network that does more than confuse honeybees...

The University of Utah...

THE FIRST TRUE and LIVING University started by Brigham Young.

Where 8 of the current Prophet's Seers and Revelators graduated.
