Here's what a friend posted on another board. What are you telling your children or thinking about for yourself. Or do you think the Lord will spare us that?
"If you hear gunshots, and can determine where the shots are coming from, try to move away from the gunfire if you think you can do it safely. Try to remove yourself safely away from the situation.
If you can't remove yourself away, try to lock yourself in the room away from the shooters. You and your friends need to stay away from bullets coming thru that door or wall while being ready to meet them at the door, from the sides, en masse if they try to come in.
Breaking a window is ok in trying to escape, try not to cut yourself on the glass.
Do anything to try to avoid them from getting you in a locked room with them where they have total control over you.
If they do get you in a locked room and are shooting people, you and your friends ALL need to fight them. Especially when they reload.
If you have to run and they are shooting at you, stay low and run a zig zag pattern, and try to use cover.
Your present less of a target sideways/profile than you do facing them or with your back towards them. (This don't work for fat people)
Open hands up with fingers spread when you see the cops so they don't shoot you."
and also
"I've told my HS freshman son to try and get out asap if he hears shots fired. He is free to disregard orders from school staff since he will be avoiding a lockdown. I told him he may be in a position to lead other students, but not to wait for them since they may be too DGI and frozen with fear. I told him not to play hero and engage a hostile. Just get out and E&E home."
My kids are very young so there isn't much I can tell them except to listen to the teacher. The school has lock down drills for these type of things. When they get older I can give them more specific instruction but at this point they won't be able to comprehend it.
