Christmas Bells are ringing....

well, actually I should say wedding bells, but that song just popped into my head.  Yup, you got it: I'm now engaged...he proposed to me this morning while we were hiking.  Don't know the date or specific place yet (and I probably shouldn't divulge that online anyway), but it'll be in the temple for sure.

Yeah...it's weird, but good weird.

RE: Wedding Bells ringing in the future....

Glumirk... congratulations.

Engagements are a time to get to know a person.  To see how they react in different situations.

Not all engagements end in marriage...  I was engaged for 3 months way back when... and when it didn't work out I was devasted and heartbroken BUT it was the best thing that ever happened to me.  I would never have found the wonderful woman I'm married to now.  Neal Maxwell had a young woman change her mind when they were in the Temple.

all of that said, take it a day at a time.  Be certain that he remains worthy... I say this, only because you have given us a little of his past history.  Yes, people repent, but you know what you are walking in to.

My prayers and congratulations for both of you.

M

Congratulations. Marriage (and kids) is the hardest, but most rewarding thing you'll ever do. I can't say I'm surprised at the announcement, from what you've said on the forum.

As the day gets closer maybe we could set up a paypal fund and have Euphrasie or Mahonri bring over a gift.

our secret to staying worthy is that when our thoughts go even a little astray, or we suspect the other might have some straying thoughts, just stop for a second and say "I love you", and because we really love each other, just remembering that fact makes any desire to do anything unworthy go away. When he came up with that, I realized that I really didn't have much to worry about. He's doing so well, and we just hit that point where we both realized that the "not yet" we'd been receiving was gone, and it wasn't replaced with a "no". We've both been praying to know if making the decision that we wanted would lead us into more fully doing the will of the Lord, which is what we really wanted, for ourselves and each other. And now we're engaged.

We're thinking the Mesa Temple for convenience, so yeah, I'll let you guys know. Our goal is to set the date by Monday. He's been working all day and will probably work late tonight, so we haven't had a chance to talk about it yet.

What a great time to have a wedding too.

Ray, is your wedding in December?  'Cause if not, I have to say that you don't know what the heck you are talking about.

I got married Dec. 21.  We got engaged in August, and didn't think it wise to wait until spring.  I don't regret getting married at Christmastime.  I'll just say this:  celebrating your anniversary right before Christmas is difficult.  Try finding a babysitter for the kids so you can get away overnight.  Usually you're so broke from Christmas that there's nothing left for anniversary gifts.

Yeah.  It's a great time to have a wedding.

These are tears of happiness, can't you tell! Jason and I are so proud of you! We dun virtually raised ya right! And in honor of the occasion, Tomacolatte Inc. will be providing you with our complimentary smooth and refreshing Tomacolatte brand tomacolate for your bridal shower. And we're pleased to provide you at wholesale cost, our special blend of tomocalate designed and packaged exclusively for wedding receptions! Have you filled in the other Heimerdingerites about your news?

Congratulations glu! Now is the time that the real work begins (and that is more than just the logistics of the wedding and reception(s)...). Both of you will need to faithfully keep your eye on the prize, as it would be surprising if temptation doesn't become intense the longer out the date is. But, it will be good practice for both of you!

We'll want to see pictures of you guys outside the temple, etc., after you've gotten married, if there is a way to get it set up so that you don't have to broadcast it to the world!

Cat, technically there is a way to keep the photos from prying eyes. I can create private areas in this forum and add members who have the ability to view said area. I could just make a private discussion area that's limited to the membership of Bountiful. That way we could all view the pictures, but they wouldn't be up for public consumption.

Yeah Glumirk, why is the wedding date so far away? Any particular reason?

I had a hard time "being good" for the four months I was engaged. I can't imagine going NINE!

Not that I'm aware of...

Jason, glumirk, and I know each other from Chris' presently defunct fan website and forum.  They were the only ones who took up my invitation and were brave enough (or is that trusting enough? ) to join the Bountiful endeavor when Chris and his admin shut the old forum down.

So you're a break-off from Heimerdinger's forum? Why did I think you were a break-off from nauvoo?

The Heimerdinger forum got crazy there for a while. A lot of interesting beliefs and ideas floating around. But it is where Tomacolatte got it's first focus groups for our marketing efforts!

Actually, I'm going to move this discussion elsewhere to a new thread (puts on moderator hat)... we really shouldn't be derailing Glumirk's announcement thread.

My bad, I started it by bringing it up...

Did she say the wedding's in December?  Other than the thread title, which she said just popped into her head, I don't think she's said at all when the date will be.  Just that they're going to set one soon.

On the topic of Heimerdinger, have you been to http://www.ptzfans.com/ about the movie? It comes out June 8! And they are working on cheimerdinger.net as well. I'm good friends with pianoeagle (well, good internet friends) and he was about 2 weeks off for our engagement. He figured it'd be Conference weekend since that's when we first had the "I like you" talk. Also Eponine and mormongirl88 have been filled in.

Thanks Euphrasie, us women-folk are on the same wave-length I guess.

The date won't be in December...there's no way I would want to wait that long! I think my fiance puts it well when he says "If it were up to me and we didn't have to deal with all of the frilly wedding stuff, I'd want to get married next week!" Unfortunately my mom gets so excited about all of this and keeps sending us suggestions, etc.

Since we couldn't call the Temple yesterday (Mesa is closed on Mondays), we are hoping to call today and schedule for July 6. That's longer than I wanted (I always said that I'd want to be engaged for 2-3 months), but with him taking summer school and working, and me working, and his family will all have to fly in and they want a family reunion around that time so they only have to book one set of flights, that will be the prime time to have it so that all can be accomplished. Plus, as my mom pointed out, this gives us plenty of time to still focus on finishing out the semester well.

I'm just hoping the Temple schedule is the same as on the card they gave me at the beginning of the year.

Pardon me while I laugh...   We who are a bit more experienced can probably say that you guys will have a very hard time focusing on school for the rest of the semester...  It can (and most likely will) be done, but it ain't gonna be a picnic to keep yer mind on school.

What's that saying, youth is wasted on the young?  And in similar terms, the old waste their wisdom?

4 months

4 months is good to get to know each other and to focus on school.

Be certain that you have your Bishop go over what you can and can't wear for a wedding dress. The sisters there are real sticklers... and also with what the mothers wear to the sealing too. (last month a mom had to change into a white dress because one of the matrons deemed it "formal wear" (My wife and I saw it and it was NOT)

Anyway... I'd spend lots of time with each others families so that you can see each other react in family situations.

Although they are also very nice. They have insert pieces that you can wear with your dress. For instance, outside in July, short sleeves are almost a must, but I think they need long sleeves for inside. Mine was short-sleeved, and I think they just had some sleeve inserts.

(I was married in the Mesa temple too, in case you were wondering.  )

yeah....we're having a morning ceremony so that we can take pictures before the actual wedding and hope it won't be too hot already. I never wanted a summer wedding, but things change when that's how it happens.

"I never wanted a summer wedding"

Summer weddings are nice in locations outside of "hell's handbasket"

My DH was going to interview for a job in Tucson, until I told him he would be a lone man in the wilderness if he though I was ever moving to AZ. Unfortunately, not even Mahonri, Euphrasie, and Glumirk are enough good to balance out the infernal heat problem.
