It's cocobeem

Hello, Bountiful ones!

I've been on Nauvoo a while.  I recognize quite a few of the names from there.

So... what's the difference really, between you and nauvoo?  Any advantages?

If I get less deletions of my posts, I may just stay here more.

My favorite little guy has to be --->

The primary difference is that we allow open discussion of politics. It's really the raison d'etre of this form. As to deletion of posts, I really can't say one way or another. I don't know that there will be any problems. Our main rule here is to be civil. From what I've seen of you, there shouldn't be any problem.
Welcome to Bountiful!

I'm coo-coo for Cocobeam!!

(I love your avatar, btw...)

PS> The forum is moderated differently than that other forum that shall not be named... We openly encourage you to discuss things you think should be considered for moderation in the Moderation forum, then we have our crack team of moderators debate it and then we all agree to just get along... and usually issue an apology and hope you don't go away too angry...   But we look for compromises... at least most of the time... unless I lose my cool and then, watch out, cuz Ki-Yah! I am DANGEROUS with my Karatay skillz!!

Oh and if you're level-headed and obsessed enough to hang out here for too long, we might ask you to stick around and moderate a forum for us... as we always seem to be a little short-handed and cuz well... we're pretty lazy as moderators, and some of us disappear for days and days...

Level-headed? I think I'm safe.  Plus, I have this problem with commitment.  Oh, no, it's not you, it's me.

Honestly, I spend waaaay too much time on the Internet.  These little faces are harder to see, so if they don't make sense, just ignore it.

I've been bummed by nauvoo saying "take it to ornery" for a lot of the topics I thought were very interesting, and I understand that's their thing, so maybe this will be fun, talking politics.  I'm not a political expert, but you know, that never seems to stop me from knowing what's right at any given juncture.   And I'll probably use this guy ---> a lot cuz I LOVE HIM.

Me...    {queue up Alan Rickman's voice as Dr. Lazarus from Galaxy Quest saying "Right!  It's all about you!"}

oh, and what Arbilad said...

We have a different atmosphere here, and that is the big difference and advantage.  It is rooted most likely in the fact we try to do things as transparently as possible from a moderation and administrative standpoint.  No one is above the rules, and if it isn't expressly included as part of the rules, we try to avoid assuming anything or creating policy without open discussion.  This allows for a lot wider variety of discussion topics without fear that it is going to be deleted or someone is going to reprimanded for their opinion.  The result is we have generally gotten along pretty well.  If things get out of hand, we talk about it, come to resolution, and go on hopefully as better associates and friends (as Ray indicated).  Many of us were or are involved at Nauvoo (or "that place across the river" ), so we also try to remember this is not Nauvoo and hence some of the attitudes there may not be appropriate for Bountiful.

Anyway, welcome to Bountiful!

p.s. I finally get your screen name, now that I see the avatar...

Yes, I'll watch UFC. I know, it's weird - don't tell my ward.

I feel a difference over here, just can't put my finger on it yet.

Yeah, gotta' love the NASA website.

Hmm, maybe because it's run by a strongly opinionated homeschooler? Oh wait, so's that other forum.

So, re-reading Cat Herder's post... (Oh, are you the same person as catherder at the other place? I always wondered why someone would choose the name of a medical device that helps you go potty  guess I just got your username, too)

Did Cat start this forum?  Is there a story behind this that I would find most interesting?

Welcome to Bountiful Cocobeem.

I am assuming your name comes from Ko-kau-beam, the plural for star in the book of Abraham. Are you into astronomy?

Yes, that's where it came from. I like astronomy... I wouldn't say I'm "into" it, because that implies I know something. But I enjoy the topic, going down to the observatory and my oldest loves space camp!

Yes, catherder and Cat Herder are one and the same.  I am he who architected the great and mighty Fortress...

No, Arbilad started Bountiful... I'm just what would be called one of the original members, er a founding father to keep it in line with politics ...  And the story is all ancient history that is best left unread.

Yup, I'm the one who started this place. I'm also the one who chooses the eye-wrenching background graphics, a couple of the silly user titles, etc.

Hi, abby! It's kinda' fun having multiple identities, eh? Should have thought of that...

Like playing Val Kilmer in The Saint.

So catherder started the Fortress.... ahhh.....  That's where I've seen the name.  Glad I pronounce it correctly now.  And arbilad started this one, but I see you a lot over on nauvoo, too.

Pssst.  It's 'cause there's guys here.  Or rather, more guys than girls.

Gracie was gracious enough to grace me with dual citizenship (how's that for an example of bad writing). That is, the fact that I run this forum does not interfere with my participating at Nauvoo. I personally don't see them as competitors. We can discuss politics here. They don't at Nauvoo.

hmm... interesting, all this unspoken "forum etiquette" that I'm clueless to. Nauvoo was the first time I've even been on an Internet forum, and that started about 6 months ago. I had no idea there were competitions, grantings of citizenships, etc... Most interesitng.

Breaks into song, "A whole new world...."

Breaking into the song "Protocoligorically Correct" from The Slipper and The Rose

Yes, we must be protocoligorically correct
Good form must never suffer from neglect
The rules and regulations we respect
Must be treated circumspect
Else the kingdom will be wrecked
We've a system to protect
Checked and double checked and protocoligorically correct

When it's army is battered and broken
And back to it's borders it crawls
To what clings a tottering kingdom
If not to it's protocols

And when the treasure is tapped of it's treasures
Are the tapestries stripped from the walls?
No, the court carries on with it's pleasures
Inquisitions and banquets and balls

But they must be protocoligorically correct
Good form must never suffer from neglect
The rules and regulations we respect
Must be treated circumspect
Else the kingdom will be wrecked
We've a system to protect
Checked and double checked and protocoligorically correct

If the daughter of the Duchess of Snodden
Were to be seated by the Countess of Sneed
For this breach of decorum to Snodden
The invasion of Sneed would proceed
And seek the heiress to the barony of Neuburg
By the side of her hated cousin, Gwenn
Oh, how quickly the armies of Neuburg
Would deploy to destroy us again

So we must be protocoligorically correct
Good form must never suffer from neglect
The rules and regulations we respect
Must be treated circumspect
Else the kingdom will be wrecked
We've a system to protect
Checked and double checked and protocoligorically correct

So we must be protocoligorically correct
Good form must never suffer from neglect
The rules and regulations we respect
Must be treated circumspect
Else the kingdom will be wrecked
We've a system to protect
Checked and double checked and protocoligorically correct

Protocol! Protocol! Protocol!
Above all! Above all! Above all!
Makes a kingdom rise or fall

So we must be protocoligorically correct
Good form must never suffer from neglect
The rules and regulations we respect
Must be treated circumspect
Else the kingdom will be wrecked
We've a system to protect
Checked and double checked and protocoligorically correct!

it's not a competition. I think it's a matter of personalities and topics we engage here. I've frequented probably over a hundred different forums. there are always those who push the limits of whatever forum they're on, and there are others who just fit right in to that forum... or the other... We've had folk come and go here too... though I don't know of anyone that's been banned from here yet... though Arbi's probably been sorely tempted, cuz I love to beat him up all the time--cuz he's just plain wrong about so many things--especially Harry Potter... :)

Different yolks for different folks... :)

The difference this time, Ray, is that with the Harry Potter book finally coming out you will be irrefutably proven wrong. With the truth there in black and white it will be hard for you to reject it!

No, you just wait. If I'm wrong, it's because of a conspiracy... that way I can believe what I want because obviously she was coerced into choosing the wrong ending by a Kabal of Illuminati that run the third parties in this country.

He's been here, although he posted under a different name. He hasn't been around in a while, though. I'm not sure why.

I know, of course, that I'm not wrong. If the book I'll read happens to say something different, I'll know that you, Ray, snuck into Borders the night before and modified the book I was going to buy with false pages.
