The Topic that refuses to go away...

http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20070309-124712-9875r.htm

As much as I'm all for illegals entering our country and becoming citizens by any means necessary, violence isn't one of them, and I'm not for this part of it... so I suppose I may have to change my position on immigration if this sort of thing gets worse.

I'm thinking that I'd like to see the criminals be deported or better yet, detained indefinitely, tried and put in prison... (rather than just sent to Mexico and having them come back later), and I think we should have some controls over what crosses the border... maybe metal detectors or something...

See, there is much more to this than just the bleeding heart blinders view of "they are just poor people" who want a better life.

By not enforcing our law and protecting the border, we as a nation are in a very real sense indirectly aiding and abetting gadiantan-like behavior in Mexico (aka organized crime and gang violence) that then spills over into our own nation.

There's also the problem that if a Mexican national kills someone in the US, if they manage to flee back to Mexico they're off the hook. Mexico won't extradite them to the US for two reasons. First, we have the death penalty. Second, we also frequently imprison murderers for life. Mexico will only extradite if we guarantee that we won't use the death penalty or put them in prison for life. That was the case with an illegal who killed a cop in Denver. He fled to Mexico. Last I heard they still hadn't extradited him. Maybe someone else had more up to date info.
