We used to play a game back in grade school called "Smear the Queier" where you would try to tackle the guy with the football. I think you can get suspended now for playing that.
When I was a kid there was a field just off school property where wild russian olive and willow trees grew. The kids who liked to take a break and smoke would go there on breaks and during lunch or if they decided to sluff a class.
The seminary building was just to the north of this area and one day when we walked into class in bid letters on the chalkboard was written;
Z U R with an arrow pointing to the window where we could look out and see the kids smoking. Of course, when we all got settled after devotional, the question arrose... What is the Z, U and R for?
He then wrote:
ZION'S UNRULY REBELS
From that day, every kid in the school who ever frequented the vacant lot with willows were called ZURs. (pronounced just like it's spelled)
We were horrible back then.
The kids who went to Special Education class at first were called "Special Edders"... eventually if you did something stupid, you were simply called an "Edder" which became a derogatory term throughout the school.
Edders and Zurs... ah those were the days.
