So I went to Nauvoo to check current topics (I posted there earlier today) and saw this:
Re: What if you can't take it to Ornery? by rayb (5) document.write(timestamp(new Date(2007,2,1,22,19,0), dfrm, tfrm, 1, 1, 0, 0)); 2007-03-0109:19 PMMarch 01, 2007 10:19 PM
You could take it to Bountiful. We love all topics...
--Ray
But when I clicked on the link, no post from Ray. Instead, there was a post from the mod about registering at Ornery.
Have they programmed an anti-Bountiful bot that automatically deletes any reference to this forum? Weird...

My guess is that somebody in authority over there has decided that Ornery is the approved place to take political discussion, and that they shouldn't encourage people to come to Bountiful.
Whatever. You see how often I post there now.

Dunno. It could have just been that Gracie is quick on the draw. I do still like Nauvoo a lot, but I am also glad that this is becoming a forum in its own right, and not just an unofficial extension of Nauvoo. We have several regular contributors who are not from Nauvoo. There have been a couple of days where we had more message traffic than Nauvoo. So far, at least, we're doing something successfully. Hopefully we continue doing it. I hate pointing out stuff like that, though, for fear of jinxing it.

First of all, the topic was originally started by nitasmile and it stands as started (except Ray's Bountiful referral post). The subject was brought up in another thread (as Roper recommended she try) and that thread still exists. It has already been requested that links not be made to Bountiful largely due to a thread here disparaging Nauvoo and many of its regulars (regardless of what the original intent may have been). Perhaps, if you want to recommend coming to Bountiful for such a discussion an e-mail can be sent instead.
From the Moderation section from Arbilad (dated Feb 9):
As a result of recent discussions, I have received a request from the moderator of the Nauvoo forum that we no longer post links to Bountiful on that forum. Any such links that are posted will be deleted. So, kindly refrain from posting such links over there.
Should be no surprise that Ray's post was deleted. Bountiful has been a nice place for discussions not welcome at Nauvoo. Ornery is just...not a hospitable place for many and not conducive to thoughtful discussion. Let's just assume the best of intent and leave Nauvoo alone.
I just noticed lurking over there last week that it is drying up. It's hard to find a post there that I find interest in now. Yes, I wish that PF were here as he always has some wise words of wisdom.

Thanks for the concern, friends, but EDG's a friend as is Nita. Hopefully she'll sign on, cuz she emailed me and told me she saw my message and thanked me for suggesting it.
Apparently she was confuddled by its disappearance too. :)
Titus, what made this deletion surprising (to me) was that I didn't post a link to the site, I simply suggested it as an alternative to Ornery. I honestly didn't think I was trolling, but you know me... always bumping into boundaries... me and my voluntary communist ways... :)
EDG deleted the messages, and later explained her judgment in an email. I respect her both as a moderator and her decision. End of story. It's her call...
I tried to explain that it's not the intent of Bountiful to bash Nauvoo so please don't make a big deal about it, cuz it really isn't one... and hopefully won't be one.

Yes, we've been through this before, and we don't want to perpetuate any misperceptions and myths that Bountiful is just a haven for bad mouthing others. We're free to talk about things here, but we should remember to employ both definitions of discretion in so doing.
dis·cre·tion[di-skresh-uhn]–noun 1.the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment; freedom of judgment or choice: It is entirely within my discretion whether I will go or stay. 2.the quality of being discreet, esp. with reference to one's own actions or speech; prudence or decorum: Throwing all discretion to the winds, he blurted out the truth.

Yeah, but can you say that fast five times without taking a breath?
I used to be able to swim the entire length of a pool and back while holding my breath, does that count?

What with the incessant inconvenient distractions from work today, it took me more than five minutes just to digitally pen the sentence! And you want me to say it fast five times without taking a breath?! Come on... I'm Mr. Incredible... not Dash!
