I'm so tired of icky weather

We are expecting another storm, with a mix of freezing rain and snow. I hate being out in it. We've lived here for 10+ yrs and I still can't get used to driving in this stuff. On top of that I have to worry about my youngest tomorrow because he has to work in the mess. He delivers pizzas and they have him scheduled for tomorrow night. This momma bear does not relax when any of the bears are out of the cave in this stuff. Just spoke to dau. bear #1, she lives in Chicago, and she and friends from her ward are out tonight. She and her roommate took the L so they didn't have to drive in the mess, but I'll worry about her driving to her ward tomorrow.

I'm going to have a sleepless night just worrying about our drive to church tomorrow and then home!!! I'd stay home "sick", but i love my Primary class and we have a really good lesson tomorrow. Maybe the bishop will cancel because of roads being bad by the time church starts.

I WANT SPRING!!!!!! I WANT CLEAR ROADS!!!!!

Would you rather worry about a son who is inactive in church, is happy to be in Afghanistan to "pay his dues", and has never backed away from a fight in his life, and also worry about another son married to a spouse who is currently expecting her third child and showing signs of being bi-polar?

I actually have 2 sons inactive at this time and one is in the Army stationed in Germany. The Army son is going back to Iraq Jan 2008. And I have a daughter who is depressed because she is almost 28, still single and can't understand why so many LDS guys are not wanting to make committments. So, this weather really doesn't do MY moods any good.

Thanks for your reply.  Well, we have Conference to look forward to, and perhaps more stories about families with 4 or 5 sons having served missions and daughters all married to RMs, and other stories to make us "feel just great".  I think we'd both gladly shovel snow and freeze all winter if it would get our kids "on track".

Couldn't agree more with ya on that.

Went outside just now to help scrap ice off ds's car, he has an indoor soccer game this morning, we have about a 1/2 inch of ice pellets on the ground. Hopefully ds drives carefully, I told him to, but you know teenagers!!

So, did you make it to Church today? Between about 7 a.m. and noon when our Ward let out, there was about 1/2 " total of ice pellets / freezing rain on the ground up our way. We only had about 2/3 of the ward show up. Guess they decided that they didn't want to go to Church today or that the weather was too threatening...

Icky weather is not too bad, so long as it stays cold enough to keep all my tulip, daffodil, hyacinth, iris, and other bulbs from sprouting more than they did in January... I don't want it to warm up too fast, cuz that means the deer will be back looking to feast off my perennials. And right now, the deer are not my friend, as one tried to high jump over the car on the road just outside my office building the other evening as I was on the way home... stupid thing hit the car and knocked the driver side mirror, housing, motor, and mount, completely off the car. $160+ damage just to buy the replacement part. Hopefully I can figure out how to install it myself when the dealer finally gets the part in...

You've lived in this state up north for over 10 years and expect the roads to be clear?! Don't you know that as soon as the snow and ice season is gone, it is orange barrel season? How could you have forgotten...

If you think you can handle serving with "illegals in the church," why don't ya'll move down here to Texas?  It's 64 degrees with beautiful clear blue skies today.  I think we'll go for a family bikeride and have a picnic in the park this afternoon.

Oh CH you made me laugh, since I really don't drive on the freeways much I forgot about barrel season. Well, we had church today. We start at 10, but the chapel didn't fill up till after the Sacrament was passed. On a normal Sunday we don't have as many late comers. And hey, we didn't live that far north, unless you count Lennon/Flint area north. Well, it is stake wise, but Lapeer is more north Anyway, the roads were pretty clear on the way to church, but the parking lot and sidewalks were a different story. Dh went out during Sunday school and shoveled ice off the walkways. He's out shoveling the ice off our sidewalks at home. What a guy!

BTW CH, we live in the downriver area (south of Detroit) now, have for the last 4 yrs.

72, sunny and gorgeous here today.

We had a wonderful spirit filled stake conference.  I learned a bunch.

I have much to improve in my life.

Isn't the atonement and repentance wonderful?

yeah...it was in the 60's today, but I was still pretty cold all day because it gets down to the 40's and lately even the 30's at night, so my apartment with no insulation stays pretty cold (and in the summer it stays very hot). I think they had the a/c on at church though...brr!

Anyway, what is barrel season? I think the worst thing we have is tumbleweed. Or that one part on I-10 before you get to Phoenix. We have to leave for our temple trips a lot earlier because traffic usually comes to a halt.

I do hope that things clear up for you guys though and that people stay safe!  Be careful driving and say lots of prayers for safety!

glumirk, barrel season  is when the orange barrels get put out on the freeways for road construction. Hence in MI there are 5 seasons:summer, fall, winter, spring and barrel (which overlaps 3 of the seasons!). The barrels start coming out about mid March and last till way into Nov. It's headaches for commuters. Luckily my dh no longer has to drive the freeways to work, he takes the bus and it drops him off right in front of his office.

And hey, quit teasing all you warm weather friends.

Hey, it was pretty bad here yesterday.  Very breezy and it only got up to 62!  Quite chilly.

yeah...it took a random cold turn and even dipped to the lower 30's last night (I don't know if it actually froze or not). And our "barrel season" is actually just starting, only it's not limited to just a few months, it happens most of the year.

What I would really like is consistant weather.  If it's consistantly cold and then warms up as a trend, you know how to dress.  But to go from being in the 70's for a few days and then the day that you finally decide not to take a jacket it ends up being in the 50's, it's a little annoying.  Once it's cold, you get used to it and dress appropriately.  Once it gets hot, you dress appropriately (man I want flip flops!) and you get used to the heat even when it's 110.  But jumping from 70 to 40 is quite drastic.

Even though I grew up in California, I must say that I find cold easier to deal with than heat. When it's cold, you can always put more clothes on. When it's hot, there's a limit to how much you can take off.

stake camporee yesterday... spent the evening in a tent in the desert... took three  of my boys.  It was beautiful... and the moon illuminated everything.  It got into the thirties but our bags kept us warm.

We stayed at Christmas Camp. (Northwest of Mobile, AZ) It's the place where the Mormon Batallion camped on Christmas Day of 1846.  Members of the "modern day" Mormon Batallion... decendants of the original group come and do a skit... it's a great fireside.
My wife is a decendant of James Pace who was in the batallion.... so it was great for my boys to hear of the stories of one of their ancestors.

I slept like a baby out there last night.
