Yea, and their also studying whether to allow people to nap on the job (with pay) because they're so tired. Bunch of weenies. No wonder the Germans were able to slap them down so easilly. I have very little use for the French. We have to deal with them a bit because of parts supply issues and the level of arogance is surprising.
Madeline and all the children cried, "Boo Hoo, we want to nap on the job too!"
All of my naps on the job have been paid... now, mind you, they don't cover the medical bills that result from the whiplash of when my head snaps back up...

Whenever they mention these great perks that other countries have, they seem to always forget to mention the attendant problems. For instance, in France it is really difficult to fire someone. In some cases, it is nearly impossible. The second time the young muslims rioted in France it was because they had just passed a law that would have made it easier to fire a young worker. The problem is that employers just weren't hiring many young people, since they were frequently not productive at all, but once hired they couldn't be fired. Making it easier to fire them would have made it so that employers hired more youth. But no, you can't make it easier to fire someone, because then you might actually have to work. So they rioted and got the law changed. If a company wants to give their employees a 35 hour work week, I'm all for it. Just don't force it on companies.

Most weeks I average 45 to 50 hours at the office and then I spend at least 20 hours a week doing Church work.
If I worked 35 hours a week, took a nap and got released, it would be like I was retired.

I only spend about 35 hours a week at school teaching. But I spend another 10-15 a week at home preparing lessons. Maybe in a few more years, I'll have enough prepared that I can just make minor modifications and then get that real 35 without having to move to France :)

I dunno, I'm beginning to think that larger companies, especially those with international clientelle and the ability to create massive special interests, with more than say ?1000? employees should be required to do this. :)
I also think that Government employees should be required to work 45 hours a week, to pick up the slack...

I personally think we could do without (at a wild guess) about 95% of government workers. I heard a figure once that one third of the population either works directly for, or works for a company that does business with, state or federal government.
