The Immigration Debate 1600 style

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhEl6HdfqWM

The buffalo was pretty funny, except for one bad word, it's a clean/funny satire...

Help me out here.

Was this produced by:
a. A run-of-the-mill American-basher who completely missed that he just painted a picture of why we should take illegal immigration much more seriously than we are,
or
b. A very smart person who made this thing look like an episode of Southpark because he likes to see clueless people agree with the exact opposite of what they think they're agreeing with?

If so... I think you'll be closer to their point. :)

I can't get to things like this link... my employer's firewall blocks it all.

As it should. YouTube is a major waste of time for pretty much everyone... and there's more or less nothing but garbage on it. Anyone can put up online video clips, and so you never know what you're going to click on next...

Actually,

The video seemed very creative, and actually presented a pretty balanced point of view, IMHO.

The "chill out" eagles were great.  So many people just want to ignore the whole thing, and don't really have a clue about what the effects of "chilling out" would be.

Treating our fellow human beings with kindness and respect is good, but ignoring the problems of ILLEGAL immigration is an AWFUL idea.  If such ignorance equates to "chilling out," then count me out.

In this age, when terrorists will murder innocents along with themselves, and count it as "God's work,"  we need to have near-absolute control over who enters our country.

People who invoke the native Americans as an argument in support of illegal immigration are out of their minds.  When one views the post-1620 history of many indian tribes, you definitely see the need for protecting the borders of your country.

Likewise, the fate of the native Americans was sealed by their own internal strife, a strong cautionary tale for the United States, if there ever was one.

I am all in favor of immigrants in this country.  It is impossible to deny how hard these people work.  If we could control the boarders, then we could have all manner of guest laborers and paths to citizenship.

But first, we have to control the borders.

The fate of the Indians was sealed by God who saw fit to bless the Europeans with the Dark Ages, plagues, diseases, and Smallpox.

About 90% of the native population of this continent died before we even knew they existed... (Just read book the book 1491 ( http://www.amazon.com/1491-Revelations-Americas-Before-Columbus/dp/1400032059/sr=8-1/qid=1170638187/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-6408380-5870404?ie=UTF8&s=books) ... fascinating, heart-wrenching, and clearly a tale about how the "attrocities" that happened back then, could never have realistically been avoided...)

Well... I linked to the video thing from home over my dialup connection.  ha ha snore snore...

Sorry, I didn't think it was funny enough for the time it tied my phone line up just to spool it across to my browser.  For satire to be truely funny, those who are being satirized need to find it funny because of the over the top caricature portrayed.  I didn't see a lot of caricature... just a lot of stereotyping.  (Now a real funny one was the one that the folks at JibJab did back in 2004 with This Land is My Land !  I still giggle when I think of that one!)

{gold star nazi voice}ray, no star for you!  Come back three weeks!  {/gold star nazi voice}

Yeah, but what was it a caricature of in our society?  That was just stereotype of the Indians' use of everything they could... we're a throw away society...  I don't think the bit about wasting most of a buffalo came about until there was a concerted effort to wipe them out (as a means of destroying the manufacturing / economic backbone of the various plains tribes) post Civil War during the Indian Wars.

But, the part where the chief was surprised to learn the pilgrims were from England and said they thought the pilgrims were from the moon was kinda funny...

It was clearly contrived to be anachronistic. The most offensive part of the piece, I thought was the man pilgrim who just kinda drooled on himself. If I were a Mexican man and thought to compare me to the white man coming to America, as this piece attempts, I'd be really peeved. It was fairly insulting... which is part of why I thought it was funny. It's like the dorky kind of thing that comes of too many liberal intellectuals bored at a party...
