The kids are watching Pokemon Advanced, and their themesong they sing, "I want to be a Hero." I think it's cute, but I also wonder, is it appropriate to want to be a hero--especially considering the misguided way in which the world defines heroes.
So what are some of the ways you define a hero, and what are some of the ways the world defines hero that you don't agree with?

I define a hero as someone who is willing to overcome very difficult situations to accomplish what is right, often for altruistic reasons. For instance, someone who runs into a burning building to save a baby (firemen are frequently heroes). The world defines it the same way, but their view of what is right is not the same as mine. For instance, they might define as heroes those who challenged the legal system in Massachusetts and got gay marriage legalized. They overcame long odds and did that which was difficult. But their definition of right is very skewed.
