Vanilla... it is like a blank painters canvas... so many possibilities, but not needing anything if the intent is for the sheer pleasure of minimalism in ice cream!

There's nothing better than a good, rich chocolate ice cream. Except maybe Tillamook Mudslide, which also has huge ribbons of real fudge (not fudge sauce) running through it. Mercy.

My current favorite is walmart's no sugar added, low fat butter pecan. It's way yummy considering I can't have sugar and all. thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

Asking someone what their favorite flavor of ice cream is like asking which kid is your favorite, or what your favorite cheese is.

Not all ice creams are created equal, the best is Blue Bell.

I voted pralines and cream, but heavenly hash is great, mint choc chip, etc.

Or which bug out bag, or which tactical gear company, or which hangun.

Ok that last was a bad comparison since Glock is superior. biggrin

I have to choose one? That is like so not fair, what is an ice creamaholic suppose to do? Forget the 12 step programs, they don't work when you're grocery shopping and your favorite(s) are on sale! It's really sad when they have to drag you away from the freezer section of the store because you're making a scene thinking the restocking guy is keeping some ice cream in the back and not restocking the freezer!!

In no particular order:

Vanilla - even better, Canadian Vanilla. Even better, Canadian vanilla brownie sundae.
Burnt Almond Fudge - Snelgroves
Blue Bunny Peanut Butter Panic
BYU Creamery Peanut Butter Cup
I'll throw in a good starlight mint

And where do i get this??

"Ginger and lime ice cream made with coconut milk. Mmmmm."

I could love that!!

Oh, and anything by Maggie Moo's.

ETA: My rather excentric father provided us with industrial soft ice cream machines during our youth. So I have a rather soft spot for a creamy vanilla soft ice cream cone.

If I have to choose anything other than vanilla, than it would be Black Raspberry Avalanche.

When the stores around here stopped carrying it, was forced to settle for the occasional Ben and Jerry's "Dave Mathews Band Magic Brownies" (Black Raspberry Ice Cream swirled with Sweat Cream Ice Cream and Fudgy Brownies).

Ben and Jerry's Pistachio Pistachio is a pretty good choice too.

One of the more unusual ones I've had recently (okay but would require acquiring a taste for to really enjoy regularly) is Haagen Dazs' Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Most ice creams are good, unless they have coconut in it or something egregiously gross. An interesting one that.

For me it has to be Ben and Jerry's Half-Baked. Chocolate ice cream with chunks of brownie and vanilla ice cream with cookie dough all jumbled together in a vat of wonderfulness. Rollo ice cream would come second, and butterscotch swirl is up there too.

Dang, now I want some and it's Sunday. (Shaking her fist melodramatically: "curse you, raaaaay!")

Ros, what is Canadian vanilla? I've never heard of it before, and I'm wondering what it is, since vanilla beans don't exactly grow up here.

It's Vanilla made with an excessive amount of cream. It's basically frozen heavy cream.

It's a Snelgroves-specific variety.

Ahhh Cat, Black raspberry Avalanche was very good! I think Farmer Jacks was the only place that really carried the Dreamery line and now that they're gone...............

Since everyone else gets to list more than one I'll list my favorites in no particular order:

Breyers Cookie Dough
Breyers Brownie Mudpie
Ben and Jerry Half Baked
Breyers Strawberry Cheesecake
Edys Girl Scout cookie:Samoas (this is a seasonal one, sold when GS cookies are on sale)
Ben and Jerry Cherry Garcia
Breyers Vanilla:any
Schwans Raspberry Rumble

I like:

Baskin Robbins Chocolate Peanutbutter
Safeway: Gingerbread Cookie
Ben and Jerry's: Chunky Monkey
Superior Dairy: Bannana, chocolate chip, chocolate, peach, and lemon.
Rocky Road by just about anybody is also good.

crazymom, I think you are right. Meijer carried it for a while, but they decided to give more shelf space to Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Gross's. All we have up our way for grocery store chains anymore are Meijer and Kroger. Big selection. Woo-hoo! Pay an inflated price for the limited selection and generic store brands that may or may not have been partially thawed at the monopoly acting super store (Meijer) or pay a super-inflated price for the limited selection and privilege of shopping at the "elite" upscale market selling the exact same stuff...
